Police Find Teen's Room Filled With Guns, Drugs, More

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -- An Upper Darby teenager was arrested Friday on drug charges, but police said that it was his arsenal and the setup of his drug operation that really surprised them.

Upper Darby police got a tip about a suspected drug dealer and went to a home on West Chester Pike. Police found 19-year-old James Jenkins in the bathroom getting ready for school.

Police said that when the searched Jenkins' house they found a cache of weapons -- including three loaded guns -- one pound of marijuana, body armor, a bulletproof vest and a surveillance system.

Officers said Jenkins could have seen police coming with the surveillance system if he had been in his bedroom.

Jenkins told police that they were lucky they found him in the bathroom.

"I truly believe, if we weren't lucky enough to find him in the bathroom, with his surveillance system, it could have been tragic," said Lt. George Rhoades.

Jenkins' parents told police that they did not know what was going on in their son's bedroom.

Police said that all of the attention feeds into his fantasy of a gangster lifestyle. In fact, he had a picture of famous gangsters in his bedroom.

One of the guns -- a loaded .357 Magnum -- was found under Jenkins' pillow.

"This handgun was registered to and belonged to a Thomas Wood," said Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.

Wood was a leader in the Hells Angels motorcycle gang. He was shot and killed in January of 2005 in South Philadelphia. Police are trying to determine how Jenkins obtained Wood's gun.

"He was ready for war. He's 18-years-old. He's a high school student who portrays himself as a gangster. Well, guess what? He lost," Chitwood said.

"they found a cache of weapons -- including three loaded guns"

Three loaded guns is a cache of weapons now.........I would call that a good start, but definitely not a cache.

Glad he was stopped before he caused untold grief.

Not clear that any grief was intended. Everything he did, including the pound of MJ, would have been completely legal 100 years ago. All his crimes are mallum prohibitum, not mallum in se.

No indication he was even selling the MJ, it could have been his (admittedly large) personal stash for himself and his friends.

Now I don't a bit that the kid is a little sh**, but things have to be put in perspective.

Sounds like his sharp-as-a-tack mom never, ever made the bed in that room or even changed bed clothes.

I'll just bet HE did all that, yah.

Yeah. Don't see anything wrong with having security cameras. A bag of weed, well I'd have no use for it (makes my lungs hurt) but to each his own. And if a gun has to be registered, being registered to a dead guy is just about right, it seems to me.

Okay, so a leader in the Hells Angels has a clean enough record to buy and register a gun? Hmmm. That sounds a bit odd.

Maybe that is the liberal idea of gun control -- let criminals register and keep their guns. Maybe you have to be a thug before you are allowed to own a gun?

Did he leave Maine, or is this a different Chitwood?

I am a descendent of Matthias Chitwood, so I went to check out those articles you posted. Then I decided to Google for a picture and found another one about Michael Chitwood. His father is Michael Chitwood, Sr.

Chitwood's father, Mike Sr., worked as a Philly cop from 1964 to 1983, including stints in the city's hostage negotiation and homicide units. He's now chief of police in Portland, Maine. With this move to Oklahoma, Jr. will follow in Sr.'s footsteps yet again.

Father and son both rank among the most commended officers in Philadelphia history-and the most controversial.

Apparantly Chitwood, Sr. was the one that arrested Einhorn and the Chitwood in this article is his son, although the article that I read was talking about him moving to Oklahoma. Maybe he changed his mind.

One thing I found interesting, the picture of Chitwood, Sr. looks a whole lot like my brother.

This is too confusing! :-)

Hmmm...

In the article from Upper Darby posted for this thread, the Chitwood mentioned is "Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood". According to this article from 2005...

Michael Chitwood, 61, police chief in Portland, Maine, said today he's negotiating with Upper Darby officials, who are looking for a leader when current Superintendent Vincent J. Ficchi retires in the fall.

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/12114414.htm

So it looks like the senior Chitwood is

1. the same as the one who was working in Portland, ME
2. the one mentioned in the thread article, and
3. The one who found Holly Maddux (mentioned at the above link).

Now if a junior chitwood is chitting wood in this same chitwood neighborhood, how much chit would a junior chitwood chit if a...

Ah heck, it's getting late...

Could we, should we, would we go ahead and just blame Matthias Chitwood? :-O
