"U.S. agents had been investigating the possibility of an elaborate drug-smuggling tunnel between Tijuana and San Diego for more than a year, but couldn't find it despite using military equipment so advanced it's classified"

"This tunnel beats them all, said Michael Unzueta, special agent in charge of the San Diego office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, "

"People are always going to find a way around us, he said."

"Once here, it is many times more complicated and costly to remove them."
THERE is the problem - you say it, yet you do not see it -
UN-complicate it - you are here illegally, you're outta here - no whining, no "I've got kids here", no "just let me get my coat" - gone... now...
( and BTW, anything you might have paid Social Security is forfeited and there is a good possibility the person who you worked for is going to jail )
It's not the length, it's the through put that matters.
As I recall, 2 or 3.
I am sure that thread is archived on FR, if I were more skillfull at searching I would find it for you.
Terrorist are VERY well funded, 5K is not much for them.
No, you're assuming again.
I have no problem with instant deportation for any suspect that cannot produce ID within a reasonable amount of time, asset forfeiture by Illegals and their employers, police SHOULD detain all Illegals they come in contact with for deportation, and I am in favor of holding sanctuary municipalities liable for injury/damage inflicted upon taxpaying Americans by the Illegal criminals they harbor.
But let's be realistic. Since most of our elected officials and LEA's don't want to even ask if you're an Illegal, let alone enforce the law. Don't you think we may be better served at trying to keep more from coming before we start weeding the garden?
"Terrorist are VERY well funded, 5K is not much for them."
Glad you see my point - why should they take a chance mixing with the riff-raff, when for enough money they can effectively guarantee their safe arrival in comfort.
For example, if that jerk did not try to set his shoes on fire he would have come in with no problem.
"Don't you think we may be better served at trying to keep more from coming before we start weeding the garden?"
The current fencing is forcing the druggies underground and the illegal workers into the desert, yet many here think that this security would be enhanced more by turning the U.S. into an armed camp.
I disagree.
By leaving the "prize" at the end and simply making the journey harder we guarantee the conflict will continue.
When there is nothing to gain by coming here illegally, they will stop coming.
Are sections of fence needed ? Sure, with our population expanding along the border the criminal element must be detered from crossing to plunder, then run back. Is a "DMZ" necessary to accomplish this ? I think not.
Ah. So the fence DOES work. Good you realize this.
"When there is nothing to gain by coming here illegally, they will stop coming."
Here's the problem though. Until the day America is worse off than Mexico, there will ALWAYS be something to gain by coming.
"Ah. So the fence DOES work. Good you realize this."
Well duh ... I never said it dosen't prevent some people from coming across, and I am certainly not an advocate of open borders as some here have accused me of ( they are not even worth replying to )
"Until the day America is worse off than Mexico, there will ALWAYS be something to gain by coming."
No chance of employment, no access to welfare, what would they come for ? Tourism ?
A fence is necessary in some areas, "The Fence" ( DMZ style ) built and manned forever by the military for the entire length of the border is absurd.
I wonder how much money from the Chinese, Arab oil shieks, and Mexican drug smugglers goes to our politicians.
I hold out very little hope the US will ever deny health care, education and other social services to Illegals. And I guarantee that there will always be private organizations that will aid Illegals along with small employers that will hire them.
""The Fence" ( DMZ style ) built and manned forever by the military for the entire length of the border is absurd.
You are the only one discussing something of this nature.
No, this is why massive and widespread corruption among government toadies on both sides of the border must be exposed and crushed, starting with our own side(since the federales are a large stationary target any time we wish to admit the facts about the Mexican government.) If this was not a "protected" project, I'll eat all the dirt they moved to dig it.
These frauds would have us believe that sensors which can pick up a tiny earth tremor in China half a world away coudn't pick up the vibrations of the earth-moving equipment needed to carry out this major construction project right under our noses. Sorry, but I don't buy that sh&t for one nanosecond.
"You are the only one discussing something of this nature."
A mandate for 698 miles of this is in HH4437
See this thread post 4,20,30,31,38,47,60,....
Make that HR4437 ... sorry
"Just try carrying a few $100,000 in CASH through U.S. Customs, undeclared, and see what happens when the nice doggie sniffs your luggage. "
Pretty stupid thing for them to do, when they could simply deposit it in a bank overseas, and take it out from the ATM's over here as needed. 10 accounts can get you 4 grand a day. Have the cards mailed or Fedexed to you so you don't have to bring them through customs either.
I've read the bill. Perhaps I missed the phrases "DMZ" and "manned forever by the military for the entire length"
"Perhaps I missed the phrases "DMZ" and "manned forever by the military for the entire length"
I take it then you've never seen the DMZ ?
I suppose they are not going to have enough people to man it?
I suppose anyone who wants to badly enough can just drive around the end of it, and there will be no calls to extend it ?
... and ANY government project will get smaller with time ?
A tunnel 80 feet deep requires more than a rope and bucket to get product to the surface. So, why aren't the feds looking for increased power usage in the area like they do for evil pot growers.
Could it be that playing with high tech toys is more fun.
How did our federal beaureaucrats and their "High Tech" let this one go under their noses?
