Wolf Blizer on "The Situation Room" reported that the republicans have more then enough votes for cloture, as many as 70. Looks like Kerry jumped the gun a bit too fast.

Kerry quote from Ground Hog's Day Eve (The day after Alito's confirmation, 1 Feb. 2006):

"I was against the filibuster before I was before it."

That would be Gordon Smith of Oregon. He is also pro-life.

So was Mark Hatfield.

Actually, I think his predecessor was more firmly opposed to the barbaric practice of abortion.

Smith-IIRC-supports embryonic stem cell research.

He's watered down a lot of his positions since losing that first race to Ron Wyden, a race that I still believe was stolen by the corrupt Dem. machine, and the fraud-prone mail balloting used in on the West coast.

I hope that Mitt Romney doesn't feel the same pressure to trim his sails-because of his religion-once he declares his intention to run for the GOP presidential nomination.

Being the Donner Party serves no purpose at all.

We cannot waste time attacking our own candidates joining the left in the endeavor.

We are going to need every single vote be it purely conservativ or barely republican.

Unfortunately, you are probably correct. If a minority GOP conference was faced with the choice of the "nuclear" option, they would back down.

Still, setting the precedent that SC nomnees can be filibustered for political reasons gives us leverage if the tabels are ever turned even if the Senators in question lack the spine to do the right thing.

In the immortal words of SEAL Richard Marcinko: Doom on you, John Kerry.

It's a phrase (Americanized phonetically) in vietnamese. Question of the day: Anybody know what it means?

Maybe Kerry thought there were Viet Cong hiding in the bushes and he wanted to massacre them.

I would be laying the groundwork-if I were Senator Inhofe, or Kyl-for launching a filibuster against any SC nominee to the left of Judge Tatel, if we're unfortunate enough to have a SC vacancy during the next Dem. administration.

He knew exactly what he was doing. I don't think it was a set up by Hillary at all. His base loves him for WANTING to filibuster. Doesn't matter that he CAN'T. LOL.

He still might start to filibuster and Frist will call the cloture vote and all will be done. Kerry is a hero to the moon bat base, and the Dems who vote for cloture will get their wrath.

Well, the GOP leadership has made it pretty clear that they oppose all judicial filibusters on principle. Not that a politicians couldn't take a totally opposite position when it suits his/her interests but it would be difficult for the GOP to argue for judicial filibusters now unless the Dems launched one now.

I think Reid knows this and is thinking long term. Kennedy is just nuts and Kerry is thinking short term.

Kerry's back posting on KOS again... He's begging the moonbats for support in the Alito filibuster. This is one of his statements:

"I spent a lot of time over the last years thinking about the Supreme Court and who American needs on the highest court in the land."

ROTFLMFAO

If the GOP doesn't nuke these bastards during a lame-duck session of Congress, then we can kiss any future SC appointments, and most circuit court nominations goodbye.

We're going to lose seats, and if we don't do away with the filibuster now it'll be our last chance.

I think that will be the straw that breaks the camel's back for a lot of Republican loyalists.

I agree with your first part, but not the second part about "or barely republican". We've got enough of those barely republicans already who play round robin in trying to anticipate which RINOs will turn around and backstab the conservative issues or votes in the back. Too me they're no better than the DimWits and they are the main reason why I will not financially support the Repub party anymore because of their support for these RINO's no matter how much they betray the Republican Party. I will only financially support individual conservative candiates running against either Dims or the RINOs.

Being part of the Donner Party is not something I can support.

Being purely in the minority is dangerous to our national security and frankly I don't want my country to be at the mercy of the klinton's or their ilk.
