Iraq Official: Saddam Moved WMD to Syria
The former number two official in Saddam Hussein's Iraqi air force claims the former Iraqi dictator moved weapons of mass destruction from Iraq to Syria in the months preceding the current Iraq war.
Georges Sada revealed the charges in an interview Wednesday with the New York Sun. They are detailed in his new book, "Saddams Secrets.
"Saddam realized, this time, the Americans are coming," Sada told the Sun. "They handed over the weapons of mass destruction to the Syrians.
The former Iraqi general said Special Republican Guard brigades loaded WMDs onto two converted Iraqi Airways planes.
He said he was told of the operation by two pilots that helped transport the materials. Sada says 56 flights were made, and were accompanied by a ground convoy of trucks carrying similar materials.
The Sun reports that the flights attracted scant international attention because they occurred at the same time that Iraq was sending relief to Syria for a dam collapse.
Sadas claims echoed those made by Moshe Yaalon, Israels top general in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Yaalon told the Sun in December that Saddam had "transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria.
According to the Middle East Quarterly, Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon issued a similar warning in a Dec. 23, 2002 television appearance on Israels Channel 2.
"Chemical and biological weapons which Saddam is endeavoring to conceal have been moved from Iraq to Syria, Sharon said.
Together, their claims challenge the conventional wisdom in the United States and Europe that pre-war intelligence estimates were incorrect in suggesting the mass-murdering Iraqi dictator either possessed or was close to possessing WMDs.
Even President Bush has conceded the point, telling Americans in a televised address in December, "It is true that many nations believed that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. But much of the intelligence turned out to be wrong.
Recent reports by Stephen Hayes of the Weekly Standard have similarly challenged the conventional wisdom on Saddams relationships with al-Qaida.
Hayes is calling for the release of approximately 2 million unclassified documents recovered in Iraq from the Hussein regime. He claims the documents could prove Saddam maintained significant contacts with al-Qaida.
Sadas and Yaalons claims will be even more difficult, if not impossible, to prove, but several U.S. Senators will try to get to the bottom of the claims. Sada is scheduled to meet with Senators Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and James Inhofe, R-Okla., next week. Both are members of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Same thing being reported here :

Notice how we don't get this news from the NY Times, Washington Post, or even Nightline. Are we gonna get this from CNN ? Fat chance.
I dont think The Federalist got to that detail, but they did report where the WMD's likely went back then.
I can't wait for Bush to stand up in front of the whole world and give it the finger! (If this is true!)
And who didn't see this coming? Anyone who's been actively following the Iraq War since it's beginning knew that all the evidence meant SOMETHING existed.
Now what's more likely?
That it was moved? Or that it never existed at all?
I wonder where the pilots and cargo handlers are buried.
Thanks. I've already watched the video from #16. Imagine we'll see lots of support on this from the MSM.
As I've stated before on this forum, I don't think the administration wants to acknowledge this because they fear that if Syria thought we were going to come after them, they might be further scattered amongst terrorist-sponsoring nations. As it is, our intelligence agencies are undoubtedly trying to learn their exact location and what they consist of so that we have an opportunity to safely destroy them.
The Sun article said:
"..He said he had not shared his story until now with any American officials. "I kept everything secret in my heart," he said. But he is scheduled to meet next week in Washington with Senators Sessions and Inhofe, Republicans of, respectively, Alabama and Oklahoma. Both are members of the Senate Armed Services Committee..."
These are new disclosures from someone with connections to know. The Sun article also names names and specific details we did not know before, such as:
"..Mr. Sada said that the Iraqi official responsible for transferring the weapons was a cousin of Saddam Hussein named Ali Hussein al-Majid, known as "Chemical Ali." The Syrian official responsible for receiving them was a cousin of Bashar Assad who is known variously as General Abu Ali, Abu Himma, or Zulhimawe..."
We won't be getting admissions from those two, but this is a lot more specific that satellite phots of truck traffic.
That's one of the first things I thought of. Would help to explain the lack of witnesses... Or does that just sound like a conspiracy theory?
L
Jon Loftus at IntellSummit.org Febraury 18th, more details! ;)
for later viewing - thanks
THe Republicans shouldn't jump on this as truth.
But they SHOULD call for immediate hearings in the congress, because of how serious this could be. If the report is TRUE, they should say, it means that Syria is holding a large cache of WMD, and we need to know that so we can put together a resolution to force them to turn it over to the international community.
This would be a much more important and necessary hearing, they would add, then even the hearings into the NSA stuff which don't threaten our country with mass destruction.
How would the Democrats argue AGAINST holding lengthy public hearings on this subject, without looking like they were playing politics with our security?
Yes, and that should be easy to corroberate, just see how many flights were sent, and then figure out how many would have been needed to deliver the relief.
I heard John Loftus last night on the John Batchelor show, which KSFO plays between 3 and 5 am each morning -- JL said that he has a CD of Saddam's conversations regarding weapons of mass destruction which Saddam compiled himself, including 30 to 40 other persons, all or most of whom have been identified, that the CD is authentic, and that it proves Saddam had WMDs.
Loftus was not given any details, saying that they would be revealed at his February 18, 2006, conference. He refused to answer a few of JB's direct questions, stating "wait until the 18th". JL said that the CD was just laying around in US possession for three years before someone finally listened to it.
Sounds too good to be true.
About to spill his guts on WMDs.
