The bar has been moved from a question of qualifications to a question of politics.
The Democrats are doing everything in their power to redefine this republic.

Yawn.
This is not about Altio. It's all about "O'Connor's seat" and their crazy base. There is no difference between Roberts and Alito. If Roberts came second Wyden would have voted against him.

Politicians from Oregon oppose Alito? Wow - who would have guessed?
Even though the vote will probably be along party lines I can already see the next headline: "Alito Wins Amid Republican Partisanship".

I would have been SHOCKED if he had come out in favor of Alito....
In related news...I saw Greta interview Osama Obama tonight...and I won't even get into his inept rhetoric about Iraq...
but, when asked about Alito...he said that he wasn't "impressed with is decisions"...and when Greta asked if he meant "judicial decisions".. it seemed like Obama was searching his memory banks of dem talking points...to figure out how to answer...
He then said...yes, his decisions..and she asked if he had READ them...and he said he has been busy going to Iraq and all...but, the ones he has read have not impressed him...

As long as Alioto gets one more yes vote than no vote he is in ... that is all that matters.

Based on past performance by this jerk...
I'd have to ask WHO told him to oppose Alito - and why?

I cannot reconcile the seemingly moderate and amiable jurist of the past few weeks with Alitos two-decade record as a federal appeals court judge and official in the Reagan and Bush administrations, Wyden said Friday.
And in that same vein, if you are a member of the Democratic Party or work for a democrat than you must be a socialist leftist liberal moron. Which he is of course.

And Burr and Dole, both republicans from North Carolina, announced their support today. But the media didn't cover it because it wasn't a shock, yet they'll covering this no-surprise decision from a party hack like Wyden. We already got Specter, Warner, DeWine and Graham. McCain most likely too.
Republicans who matter: Chafee, Snowe and Collins.
Democrats who matter: Pryor, Dorgan, Conrad, Lieberman, Byrd, Landrieu and Lincoln.
If no republican has announced opposition yet, than the democrats aren't going to win. If Alito was that bad, Chafee would certainly already be opposed. It takes 51 votes to confirm and we have 55 republicans plus 1 democrat (Ben Nelson), that's 56 votes. Which six republicans are the democrats going to get now? We are the majority, they have to chip away at our ranks, not the other way around.

Wyden also criticized Alito for standing with large, corporate polluters who fouled our air, poisoned our waters, and then dont want to pay for it. But what about the law, Senator? Suppose the law was on the side of those large corporate polluters? Ruling in opposition to the law is tantamout to legislating. By your comment, that's apparently what you want a judge to do.

I knew this idiot would vote against Alito. I'm still going to call his office here and tell them my disappointment in his decision as an "independent voter" because I viewed him as 'middle of the road'. Also, that I've reviewed his voting record over the weekend and come to the conclusion that he will
NOT get my vote again. (as if he got it in the first place) The guy has been a socialist loon from the beginning and always will be.

Contact Senator Wyden and tell him that you think he should vote for Alito just like many Republicans voted for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Or give your own reasons.

A study in sophistry.
Wyden also criticized Alito for standing with large, corporate polluters who fouled our air, poisoned our waters, and then dont want to pay for it.
Here he betrays the basest kind of favoritism of one group over another and the Constitution be damned. Under this system of jurisprudence, the judge first identifies which litigants are the good guys (or, more likely, the bad guys) and then shapes his opinion to favor the guys who enjoy the favor of political correctness this week.

**Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., has said he expects to vote for Alito, calling him supremely qualified.**
Smith will get my vote when he is up for re-election.

It is weird that this is a vote that these people are claiming that they are proud of, but it is OK with me.
Lets get them on record for something, finally.

Compare the look on Sen. Dianne Feinstein's face during Judge Aleto's hearings to one of the sinners in Michelangelo's famous Sistine Chapel fresco "The Blessed and the Damned of the Last Judgment."
