NY FReeper Jon Alvarez graduated this morning from US Army Advanced Individual Training (AIT) in Civil Affairs from Fort Bragg, NC. He is now done with the required Basic Combat and Advanced Individual Training and he did it in true Jon Alvarez style: he excelled!
As most of you know, he graduated from BCT at Fort Jackson in the top 10% of his graduating class of 591 people. Well, he went on to AIT and finished again in the top 10% but this time he was awarded the "Iron Soldier" award which is given to one individual who excelled physically, (he maxed all his required Physical Training tests at 300 points! His last test he did 92 push-ups, 81 sit-ups each in two minutes and ran two miles in 12:14!!!! Unbelievable for ANYONE much less a 39 year old!
Academically, he also received a Letter of Commendation for Academic Excellence and had "Overall Excellence in Drill & Ceremony and Military Bearing". He received a beautiful plaque to commemorate his achievement!
He is due to fly home tonight around midnight and should be home for the next couple of weeks. He will most likely be deployed in the coming weeks and as I know more and can share information I will do so.
Thanks to all of you for your support during these last 23 weeks (I can't believe it has come and gone!) and I know you will all join me in congratulating him on not only "walking his talk" but, for stepping up and excelling!
Thanks again,
Laura and Rachel

Congratulations, Jon. We are very proud of you!
Impressive... and suddenly making this 37 year old think about hitting the gym a few more times per week! =^)
The man has heart. My hat is off to him. He has my pride, admiration and gratitude.
Please keep us up to date on Jon's upcoming deployment; hope he can stop in himself and receive support and encouragement.

Congrats to Jon Alvarez and his lovely supportive wife.
Where would this country be without patriots like them, willing to make all kids of sacrifices so we can remain warm and safe in our homes, enjoying all the benefits of freedom?
Thanks to all who serve, especially in foreign lands.
May God and His angels watch over all of you tonight.
Jon Alvarez: *SALUTE*
Thank You for your service to our country.
Congratulations, Jon! Thanks for your service...you sound like the kind of person that confounds the liberals! (Many of them think people go in the service because they can't cut it in the real world!)
Those of us who know better understand it is often the other way around!
