The University of Oregon graduate student accused of disrupting a flight between Eugene and Denver this week was worried about finding a university teaching job, and fearful that she might be deported to her native Bulgaria...
``There were a lot of signs of stress that started to appear,''...
Georgieva, 35, faces a federal charge of interfering with the crew of a flight that left Eugene on Wednesday.
Her final destination that day was a mathematics conference in San Antonio, where she hoped to meet potential employers.
She is accused of threatening passengers and insinuating that there was a bomb on the plane.
The pilot landed the plane in Salt Lake City, where Georgieva remains in a hospital neurological unit.
Georgieva is working toward a master's degree in physics at the University of Oregon, holds a doctorate in mathematics from Oregon State University.
Bodurov said Georgieva's Pacific University teaching contract was not renewed when it expired in May.
School officials declined to say why Georgieva was let go.
Bodurov, with whom Georgieva had been living in Eugene, said his niece was forced to return to Bulgaria after failing to land a permanent job.
He said Georgieva enrolled in the University of Oregon physics program last fall as a way to stay in the United States.
But the subject was relatively unfamiliar to her, and she struggled with the graduate-level work.
Court documents said that on the flight, Georgieva was agitated and took a bottle of water from a female passenger sitting next her.
Georgieva then is accused of throwing the woman into the aisle after the passenger requested a seat change.
Court records say Georgieva then began yelling that she had a baby named Jesus,
that her uncle had impregnated her and
that ``President Bush was behind it all.''

With her antics and response, it looks like she passed the teachers' certification for public schools in most states.
Oh Pleaze get a life lady, in fact why don't you get a life in your own country.
Because that is all she has to offer.
You know, after reading the original story a few days ago, I felt sorry for her. She's obviously got a problem like the guy in "A Beautiful Mind." Apparently, she's a mathematical genius, but lives in a fantasy world.
What is it with math professors and bombs?
What good is all her education? She would have been better off marrying a man, having his children and staying home.
She seems eminently qualified for a teaching job at any university.
Why is MLA style so ridiculously complicated?
Nelson always makes me laugh.
LOL
Because, as we all know, the mentally deranged make the best mothers.
I'm not sure she ought to reproduce. Many types of mental illness have a genetic basis. We do NOT need more people who go wacko on airplanes.
maybe they let her go because she had a baby named Jesus, that her uncle had impregnated her and that ``President Bush was behind it all.
Are you kidding? The U.of O. is such a wacked out Leftie haven, they'd HIRE her for that, not fire her.
In any event, I hope she has a pleasant flight back to Bulgaria or whatever hole she came from, and never has the pleasure of darkening our shores again.
Yeah, I remember a couple of years ago when my husband of sixteen years came home with hickeys from his girlfriend and I kicked him out soon after he took my stepdaughter (Down Syndrome, Autistic, I'd raised her for 14 years), my home, my livestock, my pets, and every thing I'd worked for for sixteen years, I IMMEDIATELY took my shirt off, said I'd banged my uncle and that George Bush was to blame. Typical reaction, really.
Oh and PS, I'm an "Oregon woman" too. We all do this, there's something in the water I think.
Nah... yuh think?
I am so sick of President Bush forcing uncles to impregnate their neices. When will the madness stop?
