The University of Oregon graduate student accused of disrupting a flight between Eugene and Denver this week was worried about finding a university teaching job, and fearful that she might be deported to her native Bulgaria...
``There were a lot of signs of stress that started to appear,''...
Georgieva, 35, faces a federal charge of interfering with the crew of a flight that left Eugene on Wednesday.
Her final destination that day was a mathematics conference in San Antonio, where she hoped to meet potential employers.
She is accused of threatening passengers and insinuating that there was a bomb on the plane.
The pilot landed the plane in Salt Lake City, where Georgieva remains in a hospital neurological unit.
Georgieva is working toward a master's degree in physics at the University of Oregon, holds a doctorate in mathematics from Oregon State University.
Bodurov said Georgieva's Pacific University teaching contract was not renewed when it expired in May.
School officials declined to say why Georgieva was let go.
Bodurov, with whom Georgieva had been living in Eugene, said his niece was forced to return to Bulgaria after failing to land a permanent job.
He said Georgieva enrolled in the University of Oregon physics program last fall as a way to stay in the United States.
But the subject was relatively unfamiliar to her, and she struggled with the graduate-level work.
Court documents said that on the flight, Georgieva was agitated and took a bottle of water from a female passenger sitting next her.
Georgieva then is accused of throwing the woman into the aisle after the passenger requested a seat change.
Court records say Georgieva then began yelling that she had a baby named Jesus,
that her uncle had impregnated her and
that ``President Bush was behind it all.''

She probably had troubling incidents in her childhood, too.
Wait a minute...according to certain folks, American men are suppose to want to marry the women from over there...
Another educated idiot.
The academic job market will do funny things to people.
I thank God that I no longer have to attend the annual MLA convention.
What she said may sound a bit strange, but I have often heard stranger things said at the MLA.
Oh, well, my goodness, seeing as she was under stress, by all means, forgive and forget this ever happened, after all, it wasn't her fault.
Bodurov said he spoke to his niece Friday morning and that she sounded in good condition.
``She definitely wants to come home, but it's not up to her,'' he said.
``Apparently, the doctors are not convinced she's completely fine.''
Why do they continue to refer to her academic endeavors in the present tense?

ROTFL. They just described the last 11 years of me raising my children. Suck it up.
Breathing?
She should go back to Bulgaria. If she wants to return to the USA, she can fly to Mexico and walk across the border. No problemo , amigo!
No way this is true......GWB was in Iraq killing children and than causing earthquakes in Iran when this happened!
If it's a boy, she can name it George W.
If it's a girl, she can name it Georgia W.
(I can't take credit for this...I heard it during a press conference...President Bush asked a lady reporter how her new baby was doing, she said fine, President Bush asked her "Did you name the baby George W.?" The lady reporter laughed and said "It's a girl!" to which President Bush promptly replied "Georgia W.?")
