Inspired by a reader who sent a list of once American corporations who's profits are no longer funneled to the hard-working American employee, I investigated the subject.
The clip that landed on my desk was from "America is Selling Out," published in The American Conservative, December, 2005. As I digested, emotionally charged from the publication's Web site at www.economyincrisis.org, I agreed with some of the information, discarded the sensational propaganda and extrapolated my take on the issues' raw facts.
From what I've experienced and witnessed first-hand, I consider the current state of the American economy as a politically driven "the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer" economic model.
There are too many alarming signs in our country for the politicians to actually be blindly racing the mad horse into the flaming barn as it might appear. The social-economic gaps in our nation are at record heights. In recent years, there have been more billionaires than ever, more fresh college graduates filing bankruptcy than ever and increasing numbers of the middle class economically sinking.
Sadly, this is all by design, not some directionless fluke. Since the rich are richer than ever and the most profitable corporations are breaking records, the misled reports boast positive economic growth that are not a true reflection to what has happened to the nation's work force as a result of active globalization.
The weight has gotten heavier for those who pull the load - the American population - because it's the increased sweat that fuels the skyrocketing extravagance of the filthy elite few. This is the reversal point of the American Dream into the American Nightmare.
The current American economic model seems like a reversal of Robin Hood. The big and powerful are profiting and becoming even more powerful as the comfortable livings of the endangered middle class are reallocated for the increasingly exclusive and isolated pockets of wealth hoarders.
No one who is aware will deny that the corporations who apparently are running this country are outsourcing our jobs. The rationalization for the mass outsourcing is to provide American consumers with cheaper products. It almost makes sense that consumables should be cheaper since the displaced workers no longer have the higher-paying jobs to afford historically high-quality, American-made products.
The American Dream - the belief that through hard work, courage and determination one can achieve prosperity - has vanished in the atmosphere of this greed and power driven frenzy.
These days it's looking more like the American Dream is being outsourced in exchange for the American Nightmare which the vast majority of the nation's population is waking up to in this cheaper reality.
Mebbe part 1 was deflected by the ultraviolet rays from yer tinfoil hat???
We are pushing China hard to buy more American products and crack down on piracy of our software, music and DVD's. We're pushing them to build or purchase manufacturing plants here in the US. But they're still a commie dictatorship so they're tough to deal with and their people are underpaid and are not free to buy all American products. If we restrict their imports through legislation, they will no doubt respond initially by cutting back purchases of American products and starting a trade war. If we then respond and escalate the trade war, this pushes China away from free enterprise and reduces contact with the west. I do think we need to take a tougher stance in trade negotiations with China and make them agree to a certain dollar amount of purchases of US products. I'm puzzled by why we haven't taken a harder line in trade talks with China. This is probably also because we need their help to shut down North Korea's nuclear weapons program. So China is using NK as leverage to stick it to us economically.
I have to agree that it's time to get NK's nuke program shut down and finished, then take a much tougher stance with China on trade. China is abusing their trade relationship with us and it's time for that to stop.
"Exactly and I do think the Republican's house of cards will fall on this and related issued in 2008 although it is possible we will see some cracks as early as this year in the midterm elections. Someone needs to put the fear of God into the Republicans so they quit being the "good old boy, checkered golf pants" party they have become and pay attention to the concerns of the average working person."
I agree fully as well. Furthermore, as much as I hate to say it, Bush seems to think he can coast on terrorism and Iraq being his only agenda. What he doesn't realize is that he can't ignore his domestic agenda and duties. He seems to (forgive me for sounding like a socialist) be allowing corporate america to happily gut the middle class by getting rid of our manufacturing jobs and allowing swarms of illegals in. Now if Manufacturing jobs were plentiful I doubt anyone here would mind too much. But combine it with outsourcing and someone is just begging for a major change to occur and I htink the democrats will get back in charge by stoking the resentment of the native borns against the illegals.
"China is abusing their trade relationship with us and it's time for that to stop."
I would recommend having our corporate honchos just suddenly yank all the jobs out of China and put them back here, after getting rid of the crippling programs that drove them away in the first place.
There is no reason whatsoever that we should enrich the people who will one day come to kill us. And make no mistake, that is exactly what China will do, either directly or through one of their surrogates, like North Korea.
But it sure gets awful hot under one in the desert sun.
That's why I only wear mine off and on ... usually when I'm mowing the grass (mower fumes are well-know to cause them chemtrails to be sucked right in!!!) - can't be too careful.
Oh, they'll become "free traders". You see "free traders"
won't deny the benefits of "free trade" to communists, because communists can produce really cheap goods. It takes a fairly low IQ to accept communism as a means of manufacturing for very low or no wages, which the "free traders" have done in spades.
Tai-kong suo-yo de xing-chiou do sai-jin wu di pi-gu!
Depends on point of view. Cheap labor can never be cheap enough for the greedy. When one is an addict, One's attention is usually increasingly and obsessively drawn to the object of their addiction. That is the state of things today with these greed mongers who preach that Greed is good.. That's like saying Alcoholism or narcotics habits are good. Henry Ford's idea was keeping Cost low and Employee pay as high as possible while still making a profit. Today, the standard is keep cost low while paying the employee as little as possible.. You can only cut wages so much before the employee is working for nothing. But if that were the end result, someone would surely tell us that is proper..
Math is hard!!
They just might become communists and join the WTO!
After all, communists can become millions richer, thanks to the revolutionary "free trade" system!
So can sugar farmers, thanks to your revolutionary quota and subsidy system! But that's okay, you're only screwing those citizens who use sugar and food containing sugar. And those citizens who pay taxes.
I'd rather people paid market prices for goods. Without being forced to overpay because some lobbyist got to some congressmen. But higher prices don't bother you, do they? You must be a rich, overcharging socialist. Post any more Commie articles you agree with lately?
I'm against all subsidies.
One can only assume you have a deeper underlying animosity towards Americans.
That's funny, because you're the one who wants Americans to pay more.
