In a way, the Supremes are between a rock and a hard place. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Yes and one of those is the right to life - meaning that you, not the government, can decide what to do with your life.

If you are ill and want to end your life, you have that right.

Exactly. The frothing small-mind folks don't know the difference, and "know" the decision is bad, just because of who decided it.

My initial reaction is "blame the doctors," because without their professional opinion that suicide is a legitimate medical procedure (at the wish of the patient), the majority ruling in this case loses its very foundation.

I'm generally put off by the notion that law is the solution for all.

You really think that individual states have the right to allow people to be killed, as in abortion, or the fake suicide which is really euthanasia?

If Roe vs Wade were overturned today, you could still get an abortion in most states.

There you go. And that includes the inalienable right to shoot yourself in the head. There's no inalienable right to have the government provide the means. It's a culture of life thing.

Keep an eye on Oregon. Soon enough they'll be killing everybody. People will be flying in from across the planet. Pizza huts will spring up along the highways. Of course there will be a need for quality hotels/short term lease apartments.

Dissenting, along with Roberts, were the Court's two most conservative members, Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. Scalia, in an opinion joined by the other two dissenters, said the Court distorted the Controlled Substances Act and disregarded "settled principles" on how to interpret statutes. Thomas, in a separate opinion speaking only for himself, accused the majority of making a constitutional decision "under the guise of statutory interpretation."

At first glance, the idea that this will help abortion because of the "it's a state's right" idea is faulty. The majority led by Kennedy made this about police powers and the federal government's right to intervene in state's medical (medicinal) practices.

I don't agree that it has anything to do with personal "entitlement," but everything to do with personal "responsibility."

If you want to end your life, don't put the responsibility on doctors and "laws" to carry it out. Just do it.
