It's Hillary presidency, Bush told
Insight ^ | 17 January 2006

President Bush's advisers are resigned to the Democratic capture of the White House in 2008, according to senior Republican sources close to the White House.

GOP sources said White House strategists have attempted to persuade Mr. Bush that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat and her party’s current front-runner to be the next presidential nominee, cannot be defeated in 2008. Bush strategists said the president should instead focus on seeking to retain the Republican majority in both houses of Congress in 2006 and 2008.

"There is nobody in the White House that will openly say we lost the presidency in 2008," a senior GOP source said. "But while the Democrats are completely focused on 2008, the White House has been completely aloof."

The strategists have argued that given the forecasts of a downturn in the economy, crises with China and Iran, Mrs. Clinton would be besieged with major problems that would ensure a one-term presidency, the sources said.

The strategists have pointed out that Mr. Bush, given the failing health of Vice President Dick Cheney, does not have a natural successor. Recently, Mr. Cheney, who suffers from heart problems, was rushed to the hospital because he had difficulties in breathing.

The sources said the strategists have assessed that Mrs. Clinton would easily win the Democratic leadership and the subsequent race for president. They said Mr. Bush has pledged to campaign vigorously for any GOP presidential nominee.

Administration sources said Mr. Bush has discussed the prospect of a Clinton presidency. But they asserted that the president has focused on the 2006 elections for Congress and the need to maintain the GOP majority.

"If we lost our majority in Congress, then the president immediately becomes a lame duck," an administration source said. "So, the talk of 2008 is not only premature, it's harmful."

"But while the Democrats are completely focused on 2008, the White House has been completely aloof."

This phrase alone tells me this story has no credibility. First, the rats are not focused on 2006, let alone 2008. They are only focused on their hatred for President Bush. Then, the white house is aloof? Give me a break, they are fighting a war in the ME and a war in the media.

I love Dick Cheney. We all do. But I have reason to believe that his health is in worse shape than is generally admitted.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I have long believed that VP Cheney would resign for health reasons and be replaced with someone who has little baggage.

The right person could enter the 2008 race as an "incumbent" if he/she is picked early enough.

what's the "national media"? national media = NY media + DC media, for all intent and purposes. the same media that gave Hillary a free ride during her Senate bid, would do the same for her presidential bid. sure, there would be televised debates - but we all know how scripted they are, and who hosts them, and who the moderators are.

my point is simple - anyone who thinks Hillary will be grilled by the mainstream media during her presidential run, is dreaming.

For "entertainment value" alone, it would make for a memorable 4 years. Just think of all the vermin who would emerge from their hiding places in a quest for another chance to soil the White House.

Actually, I'm a big fan of Sen. Frist. He's a brilliant man, and he has a solid conservative voting record.

It's a shame he has to be the one who gets blamed for the Rino Republican's refusal to support their president....but...he is the Senate Leader, and the buck stops with him.

I'll vote for Frist over McCain, Giuliani, or Gingrich any day of the week.

I really was a fan of his until he started fooling around with the RINOs. I doubt highly that Gingridge would have put up with some of the crap that Frist has. I mean another week for vote after all that time...I know that he is a great man deep down. I just wish he would stay in the Senate and not go after the Presidency right now. He is too damaged.

I agree with you on the three if it was between Frist. I would vote for him. In fact, if Frist is the Republican nominee, he gets my vote because I will always vote Republican regardless. I am just alittle bumbed out with him right now. I am sure that he can change his ways easily.

I can't imagine who these "strategists" are that advise re an eminent Hitlery presidency. Are they insane? She has so many negatives I cannot imagine that she could win. Get George Allen in there against her and run a campaign against the vile Clintons.

Frist has just about zero stage presence. He would make a lousy candidate on TV.

Frist is not the one in charge of when the Judicial Committee holds their votes. That was scheduled according to the rules of the Senate which the committee democrats manipulated to their benefit.

In any case, Alen Specter is the chair of the Jud. Comm.

Do not forget that Rudy purposely and loudly chose to ignore Federal directives on illegal immigration. There is no constituency for Rudy.
