President Bush's advisers are resigned to the Democratic capture of the White House in 2008, according to senior Republican sources close to the White House.
GOP sources said White House strategists have attempted to persuade Mr. Bush that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat and her party’s current front-runner to be the next presidential nominee, cannot be defeated in 2008. Bush strategists said the president should instead focus on seeking to retain the Republican majority in both houses of Congress in 2006 and 2008.
"There is nobody in the White House that will openly say we lost the presidency in 2008," a senior GOP source said. "But while the Democrats are completely focused on 2008, the White House has been completely aloof."
The strategists have argued that given the forecasts of a downturn in the economy, crises with China and Iran, Mrs. Clinton would be besieged with major problems that would ensure a one-term presidency, the sources said.
The strategists have pointed out that Mr. Bush, given the failing health of Vice President Dick Cheney, does not have a natural successor. Recently, Mr. Cheney, who suffers from heart problems, was rushed to the hospital because he had difficulties in breathing.
The sources said the strategists have assessed that Mrs. Clinton would easily win the Democratic leadership and the subsequent race for president. They said Mr. Bush has pledged to campaign vigorously for any GOP presidential nominee.
Administration sources said Mr. Bush has discussed the prospect of a Clinton presidency. But they asserted that the president has focused on the 2006 elections for Congress and the need to maintain the GOP majority.
"If we lost our majority in Congress, then the president immediately becomes a lame duck," an administration source said. "So, the talk of 2008 is not only premature, it's harmful."
Uh, I don't want this administration worrying about winning the Presidency in 2008. That should be the problem of some other group of Republican. Bush's guys should just focus on their present situations.

I mean, if we let HIM in, then we're going to have to seriously consider HITLERY, because she IS a Junior Senator from New York, no matter HOW deep in denial we happen to be about her...
Nope. In my precious little world, our next President will be a GOP Governor from a Red state, or even a Blue state, where s/he's suffered long enough. (And Ah-nold ain't even in the mix, as he's foreign-born and can't be President, Thank Goodness!)

I heard her yelling with her abrasive voice today at the MLK event and wondered who would EVER vote for her. What does she have to offer in reality????
Unless the government we end up with under a 2008 Republican would not differ substantially from what we would get under Queen Hillary. In that case, never mind. ;)
The only thing she has to offer is a woman as president. There are lots of women who want to see that, I guess, but hate her.

I believe Bush would much prefer Hillary win then either McCain or Giuliani.
The same way that Hillary prayed for a Bush win while giving an award winning performance in support of Kerry.
In 1989 Bush 41 looked unbeatable. IN 1991 Bush 41 looked unbeatable with a 90 percent job approval rating.
But one thing is certain... Hillary is attacking bush and moveing to the far Left.
It is pretty simple. She has lost the support of the Democratic base. Imaging the following.... while home for Christmas Vacation Nancy Pelosi was booed in ther own District* at a Democratic meeting where she spoke. The base of the Democratic party is mad at Nancy Pelosi for being too conservative. Can you imagine how mad they are at Hillary?
The truth is Hillary is having trouble getting the support of the base and she can't win the Democratic nomination in 2008 with out the support of the DEmocratic Base. The Clintonistas are trying to counter the opposition to Hillary, by doing the same thing they did to nominate Kerry. The are trying to create the image that Hillary can win the presidency!!!.
The truth is she can not even be sure of getting the Democratic nomiation. And unless she moves far to the left she will not get the nomination. That is why HIllary in the last few weeks has taken a very sharp left turn.
The first rule of Politics is
The base wants a lefist candidate. And they think Hillary is a DINO.
Hillary will have to move so far left to get the nominatin that she will have no chance in the general election.
I look for Hillary at the last moment to withdraw from the Presidential primaries. Then try to pick up the pieces after a full blown leftist is defeated in 2008.
I think Hillary will try to pull a Nixon and run in 2012 after a leftist has been massively defeated in 2008.
Unless something drastic happens niether 2006 or 2008 will be a good year for Democrats.
Hillary is a deadly political combination. A politician and a celebrity.
Only a similar combination can beat her.
Only two Republicans fit the bill. The only two that were the subject of movies. The only two who are popular TV guests whose names are known by people who know no politicians.

This article is totally wrong. Hillary can't win any of the states Bush won in 2004, and she would struggle to win some of the states that Kerry won, e.g., Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. If George Allen runs a good campaign he'll beat her like a copper kettle drum; I think 53-46 in the popular vote.
you all know hillary...her mother (an avid mountaineer and psychic) named her in the future for Sir Edmund Hillary's great ascent... with vistas almost as broad as her a$$.
