Gay activists in South Africa have vowed to "flood" the country's blood services with blood donated by gay men.

This follows an announcement by the South African National Blood Services that it would not accept donations from men who have sex with men.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance says its members would lie when asked the question: "Have you had male-to-male sex in the past five years?"

The Alliance claims members have already donated 120 units of blood.

It aims to flood the blood services with 70,000 units.

'Offensive'

Alliance spokesman Juan Uys describes the question as "humiliating, offensive and an insult to gay men". He says all blood should be treated equally.

He says the SANBS has already admitted that it uses state-of the art equipment that ensures rigorous screening of donated blood, and therefore they should accept the blood from men who sleep with other men and subject it to the tests.

Mr Uys said the question of risk of HIV infection was no reason to discriminate against gay men.

He says if people were discriminated against based on risk, then South African women between the ages of 18 and 24 should not be allowed to donate, as research shows that they are the group with the highest HIV infection rate in the country.

The ELISA test for HIV give false positives for black people, pregnant women, people with a family history of malaria or TB, etc. Basically the tests are junk, and are especially useless in Africa.

The HIV virus has never been isolated, and so the serological tests for HIV have never been calibrated against the virus. They should not be used in diagnosis anywhere, but in Africa they are more obviously fraudulent

Are we still in an era where we believe if your gay then you have AIDS?

From 1981 through 1999, there were 751,965 cumulative reported cases of AIDS in the U.S. At least 56 percent of the AIDS diagnoses occurred in gay or bisexual men. In other words, two percent of the population had at least 56 percent of those reported AIDS diagnoses. The second largest group was IV drug users. What about heterosexual sex? It is not illogical to extrapolate (at least partially) this pattern to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. In deed, the facts tend support this extrapolation with the exception that the heterosexual spread of the disease in greater due to more promiscuous, bi-sexual behavior fostered by cultural norms of certain populations segments.

By now I would think way more heterosexual people have HIV than gays.

Cite some statistics to back your supposition.

Let’s examine some logic in light of known facts:

Those engaging in high risk activities such as homosexual activities are, proportionally, the largest segment of the population having contracted the deadly disease, HIV/AIDS.

Those wishing to avoid exposure to the deadly disease, HIV/AIDS, voluntarily abstain from the high risk activities that most often propagate the disease.

Therefore, it incongruent to force those who wish to avoid deadly disease, HIV/AIDS, and have avoided high risk behavior to do so, to involuntarily increase their risk to the disease by being exposed to transfusions intentionally contaminated by infected donors.

Utter madness! Lets be glad that there seem to be only a few politically correct diseases that we should have to be exposed to. The fight against the dreaded homophobia blight on humanity is a noble moral relative cause!

They WANT to spread it around, so it will no longer be a "gay disease". Not sure of links, but they have stated thus repeatedly. They keep telling the public and officials, anyone who has an ear, that it isn't a gay disease. They want to ensure it isn't.

The only reason it isn't a homosexual disease is because most of the men who have aids are having sex with both men and women.

The question asks, and mind you, it's ONE OF THE QUESTIONS, not if a person is homosexual, but if a man has had sex with a man. It's a legitimate question, just as the others are. such as have you had a tatoo, have you shared a needle, have you traveled outside the US, there are a lot of questions. And they are all for a reason.

The question asked of men and whether they had sex with a man, is in cases where it is true, also is relating to what most of African areas like this one, where men are bi-sexual. A term I don't even believe in, but used none the less. THIS is how women get it.

Perhaps offering the death penalty to gays who intentionally contaminate the blood supply would reduce the fervor. Getting HIV tainted blood is essentially a death sentence to the unsuspecting recipient. It is only fair to return the favor in kind. Especially given the malevolent intent in making the tainted donation.

They should be arrested for attempted murder, if it's found that they are HIV positives and are donating blood and lying about it.

Attempted? What is the rate of documented cure of HIV infected individuals? Vanishingly small. It is a death sentence that can only be held at bay with astronomically expensive drug treatments. That assumes that you even have access to the drugs and some population of taxpayers to victimize as a source of finance.
