For every 100 babies born in New York City, women had 74 abortions in 2004, according to newly released figures that reaffirm the city as the abortion capital of the country. And abortions for out-of-town women performed in the city increased from 57 to 70 out of every 1,000 between 1996 and 2004, a subtle yet noticeable trend that experts say may reflect growing hurdles against the procedure in more conservative parts of the country.
The new Vital Statistics report released by the city Department of Health this month shows there were 124,100 live births, 11,700 spontaneous abortions and 91,700 induced abortions in the city in 2004. That means 40 out of 100 pregnancies in the city ended in a planned abortion - almost double the national average of 24 of 100 pregnancies in 2002, estimated by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a Manhattan-based nonprofit group that researches reproductive health issues.

It may be discouraging, but it's not surprising. I remember the pre-Roe days, and this is history repeating itself.
Over 40 Million Abortions
in U.S. since 1973
There have been more than 40 million abortions in the twenty six years since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized unrestricted abortion on January 22, 1973.
Except when noted, the following statistics are based on research published by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, special research affiliate of Planned Parenthood Federation of America--the nation's largest provider and promoter of abortion. Estimates for 1997 and 1998 are based on trends from previous years.
In the past, AGI has estimated a possible 3-6% rate of underreporting. The following uses the lower figure.
How smart is that...aborting your state into oblivion. They'll not only have God's sure punishment, but they will have less and less representation in Congress. Liberals would be extinct if conservative parents boycotted the Left's brain-washing factories, called "universities."
It would seem that the Left, as a whole, is even more suicidal than we thought.
How many electoral votes will NY have in 20 years?
Did you read the whole article? The point is that women are beginning to travel in order to obtain abortions that are more difficult to get at home. They go back to their red states once they have traveled to New York.
Maybe there is a reason why we have an illegal invasion, who will pay for social security?
Good grief that is astounding and also scary that many women have become something that even the animal world would not become.
It is called the Roe Effect, conservative parents are very likely to have conservative kids and not abortions. Lib are likely to raise their kids lib and are more likely to have abortions. To be blunt we are out breeding them.
It's disgusting the way those people use abortion as if it is birth control.
Hello, ever hear of a condom?
This is just repulsive to me on the most basic human level. Those people have no inner spark, no soul.
Real, real sad news. Wonder if Senator Kennedy is happy with this. MLK day and all races, genders wanted RIGHTS..but still none for the unborn. TR
It says that less than 2% are out of towners. Your confusion is generated by speculation by the NARAL witches that out-of-towners "might" increase in the future, which of course is reported as fact by the article.
And it also said that that 2% figure is a 20% increase over the previous year.
They're using abortion as birth control. Too lazy to take pills or keep their pants on. And God forbid the man wear a condom.
you are right. btw, just try to touch a cats kittens and watch how the mother fights like a banshee to protect her kids. in a factory i once owned, a stray cat made her home in a storage area, some fifteen feet up in the air on a bunch of pallets. she had kittens. we only knew this because of the yelps. when i climbed up there to get a look, she attacked me like i was the devil. she was a good mother, unlike so many humans. sad indeed. btw, we all fed her and i eventually paid over one thousand in vet bills for her and the little kittens.
I don't agree with first time abortions, but I can kind of understand someone being young and thinking that would solve their problem. You would think after someone has one they would never want another one. So many of those women are repeats. It is disgusting. Who would want to keep going through that? Natural miscarriages are hurtful enough--what kind of person wants to keep doing it deliberately over and over again?!?
Actually the article states only 2% are from out of town. The argument that the increase in number of abortions is because of out-of-towners is misleading.
That part is pretty hard to understand. Moral considerations aside, the sheer expense of abortion vs. contraception would seem to be a deterrent.
