A SWAT team member shot and wounded a pupil who appeared to be carrying a handgun at his middle school in an Orlando, Florida, suburb.

The report of an armed student led to an evacuation of students, teachers and school staff.

The student was taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

Details of the shooting were sketchy, but Seminole County Sheriff’s officials said no other students, teachers or school staff members at Milwee Middle School were injured.

Sheriff’s officials had originally said the wounded boy had barricaded himself in a restroom.

I have a pellet gun that looks like a .45 auto. I doubt anyone in the heat of the moment could tell the difference.

He's 15 and in 8th grade? Isn't that, like, two years behind where he should be? Is he SPED?

I graduated from high school at 16. The average kid starts kindergarten at age 5. An average kid would be 13 years of age in 8th grade.

The .45 auto shaped .177 cal bb/pellet pistol has been around for ages. The little spring loaded job will sting the skin. It's a completely different issue if it uses a CO2 cartridge.

Every day the police are shooting somebody here in Florida and with the new gun law where citizens can shoot anybody if they feel threatened. A towtruck driver repossessing a car shot the driver dead. The driver was backing away but now he's dead.

The schoolboy is on life support.

I heard that on the radio. I haven't been around to pick up any other details from local news.

Charlie Crist isn't such a good Fla Attorney General. I think crime is up.

How long will it be before Brady blames the gun for this?

Fox News just reported that the gun the kid had was a modified version of a pellet gun.
