Judge Samuel A. Alito Jr. completed his testimony at his Supreme Court confirmation hearings on Thursday to a blast of opposition from Democrats, who signaled they would not support him. They also indicated, however, that they saw little chance of blocking his confirmation, even with a filibuster.
Several Democratic senators on the Judiciary Committee took the step of announcing, as Judge Alito sat before them, that they had been alienated by his 18 hours of testimony, which left them with doubts about his credibility, as well as deep concern about his record on abortion rights and his views on the White House's effort to expand the definition of executive power.
It seemed clear that Judge Alito, in contrast to John G. Roberts Jr., will draw few if any Democratic votes in the committee, and when his nomination goes to the full Senate.
"As your testimony in these hearings come to a close, I just have to tell you that I remain very troubled, not by anything in your personal history, so much as by your judicial views," said Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York. "Unfortunately, by refusing to confront our questions directly and by giving us responses that really don't illuminate how you really think, as opposed to real answers, many of us have no choice but to conclude that you still embrace those views completely or in large part."
The committee's ranking Democrat, Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, said after the hearing, "I continue to be worried - and I pressed the questions again today as I have all week long - he is not clear that he would serve to protect America's fundamental rights."

Oh, God no! Now women will certainly suffer the indignity of back alley abortions and dirty chothes hangers. I hope conservatives can live with themsevles.
:) HA!
Tough bean lips.
Yes, with every word you alienate yourselves further from the American people, and reality in general.
Keep talking!
"NANNY NANNY BOOBOO..NYT" LOL
Unfortunately the understanding that the majority of the questions they posed dealt with, let's see... Vanguard, which he had no recollection of and was COMPLETELY CLEARED of, and Roe, which he's unable to comment on.
The's asshats keep asking the same 2 questions even though they know 1) he's been cleared and 2) he's unable to comment.
Anyone else in the media bother mentioning that at all? Not that I've seen, and I read a fair deal.
Oh dear...they are :
Worried
Troubled
Saddened
Perplexed
Puzzled
All of their concerns about this good man sure makes me feel even more secure with this man at the helm. If they don't like him...that speaks volumes!!!!
"You know, this may be bouncing around here a little bit, but I'm trying to pull together my own mind."
IMHO the Internet is playing a major roll in their downfall. Only the most radical of Liberals are in control of the major websites for the causes the left identify themselves with. MoveOn.org, DailyCos and Dummies Underground are prime examples of how loony the left has become. I truly believe I could get a more pro American report from AL-Jazeera than I could any of these major Liberal websites.
The most amazing part of all of this is that these fringe groups on the left have taken over the Democrat Party and I think CFR (campaign finance reform) might be the cause of this major shift..
The groups that have benefited from CFR seem to be the most radical on the left, while the groups on the right were not prepared for this new class of radical left groups, and I think the left wing groups came out with guns blazing and earned themselves the well deserved label of "RADICAL"
I think the RATS are in deep doo doo
"Oh my, I need an abortion!"
Both Ginsberg and Alito are well qualified, experienced and intelligent legal minds. They also happen to be polls apart in their political/judicial philosophy.
Republicans do not like Ginsberg, but acknowledged her to be qualified to be on the SCOTUS. She gets in with 90+ votes.
The Dems, most of them anyway, will simply not vote for Alito simply because he is a conservative. In their small minds, that is enough to disqualify him, the rest is pure grandstanding BS.
Major difference: Alito never served a right-wing organization so far out there as to be despised by the majority of the American people.
Alito was more qualified (by a bit) and less radical (by a mile) than Ginsberg.
Tell me she wasn't the inspiration on the alien in "Predator"
No. The alien was too smart to sit around the Senate Judiciary Committee. Scary sight, though, huh?
Fretabuster. That's a good word. He's right too.
