Samuel Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court represents a grave threat to our fundamental liberties. His record makes it clear that he is a conservative activist who will put his personal ideology above the rule of law.
If Alito replaces Sandra Day O'Connor, a moderate justice who represented the swing vote in many cases, some of our most fundamental rights are at risk. Alito won't stand up to a president's abuse of power. He has said that the Constitution does not protect a woman's right to choose. And he has consistently used the bench as a launching pad for his conservative activism.
Sign the petition below to urge Senate Democrats to stand together and use every means at their disposal to block the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. The results will be shared with Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Dear Democratic Senators:
Let's stand up and fight for what we believe in as Democrats. Samuel Alito should not be on the Supreme Court.
I urge you all to stand together and use whatever means you have at your disposal to block the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court.
Samuel Alito's nomination represents a grave threat to the fundamental liberties of all Americans. He is an activist who has consistently placed his conservative ideology above the rule of law.
If Alito replaces the moderate Sandra Day O'Connor, who often proved to be the swing vote on important cases, the Supreme Court will shift dangerously to the right, undermining our basic freedoms.
In an era when the president of the United States declares himself to be above the law, it is more important than ever that we have a Supreme Court that fulfills its duty as the ultimate guardian of our rights. Alito's nomination puts those rights in danger, and it is vital that you use whatever means possible to block his confirmation.

In case you are saying to yourself John Who? He is the former senator from North Carolina, and he served as the running mate of John Kerry in 2004, and John Kerry served in Vietnam as a young man.
Of course it goes without saying, he's still living in that "other America" in his two America's he was always yapping about.
They simply can't help themselves, can they?
How and where are they going to wrangle up these votes? They're going to destroy their party in this futile act of desperation.
>>>He never uses the term "filibuster" but it is implied very strongly.
You are correct. MoveOn.org sent out newsletters to their lists about 2 weeks ago calling for an Alito filibuster.
So, I interpret it the same way you do.
He didn't practice it. He 'channeled' it.
The first sentence alone is absurd.
I actually want them to fillibuster Alito. They seem not to be as good at Game Theory as they usually are. It really would hurt them a lot to do it, after their failure in the committee.
Maybe that is what this was about? Could they have something to blackmail?

Is Edwards the same Senator Edwards who made a fortune by milking the medical profession for malpractice? Why should anyone listen to Edwards? Where are his arguments against Alito? Is Edwards against Alito because he also hates anyone Republican?
As Wally Cleaver would say "The guy is creepy".
I dare them. The American public will love that move - NOT! It's clear the DUmmies are losing this fight, and the filibuster will come off as a dumb, stupid, last-ditch, desperate measure. I hope they try it. Their poll numbers will sink even further, and they'll end up alienating even more voters.
Thank God Bush/Cheney won.
Yep. Hopefully, all the Dummies are emailing thier puppets to filibuster as we type.......
He's a crooked lawyer who made millions off the backs of cerebal palsy patients.
Throwing a bone to the lunatic base that he needs in the '08 primaries.
