Schumer Gets Schooled on the Constitution
HUMAN EVENTS ^ | Jan 11, 2006 | Robert B. Bluey

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) crafted the following questions for Samuel Alito in hopes, I suppose we're to assume, trap him on the question of a "right" to abortion.

Here's the transcript:

SCHUMER: Does the Constitution protect the right to free speech?

ALITO: Certainly it does. That's in the First Amendment.

SCHUMER: So why can't you answer the question of: Does the Constitution protect the right to an abortion the same way without talking about stare decisis, without talking about cases, et cetera?

ALITO: Because answering the question of whether the Constitution provides a right to free speech is simply responding to whether there is language in the First Amendment that says that the freedom of speech and freedom of the press can't be abridged. Asking about the issue of abortion has to do with the interpretation of certain provisions of the Constitution.

SCHUMER: Well, OK. I know you're not going to answer the question...

Schumer is an egomaniac. In his mind he is handsome, witty and smart. It would not occur to him that he was bested intellectually.

I think the reason Alito has been able to keep a straight face for these past three days is that, as a judge, he's had the training of having to listen to countless hours of BS from lawyers without laughing out loud.

Great point...and very encouraging to onlookers like me who didn't understand how Alito can be so strong.

IIRC, Schumer got 1600 on his SAT. It shows what can happen when you let your mind go to waste.

If
Schumer found out that Alito had a perfect score,
then
Schumer would make a statement implying that Alito cheated.

Because of the money coming in from NARAL and Planned Parenthood. God forbid they should lose that funding.

Maybe they will.... and maybe those groups will go out and find other, even far more leftist candidates that the current Senatorial sock puppets doing their bidding. That would be the deathknell for the Democrat party.

Alphonse D'Amto was spot on when he called Shlomo Shummer a schmuck.

Yesterday Rush Limbaugh said that what the Dems are doing to Alito is equivalent to torture and the Dems are the ones that are against any kind of torture. I laughed out loud at the truth of it.

Actually, I believe D'Amato called him a Putz, not a schmuck. I don't know Yiddish, so I can't tell you which is worse. On the other hand, everyone calls Chuckie a schmuck because it's an obvious Spoonerism.

Ironically, the "putz" comment hurt D'Amato because the press jumped on it in a way that was totally out of proportion particularly with their reaction to D'Amato's prior opponent who called him a "facist". Voters were outraged more than the press.

Abortion has become the RATS religion.

No, their religion is Humanism. Abortion is their highest sacrament, a blood offering to their twin gods of Irresponsibility and Convenience.

Republicans are for helping people become rich. Democrats are for helping people stay poor.

Well, I can't be sure. I can't be sure Dayton has one either. But they are both classified as members of the male gender albeit possibly minus a member. LOL!

Are you implying that a member of congress might not have the appropriate member of congress?

They are NOT my "fellow voters".

You want an explanation? NY is dominated by New York City and the NYC metro area. That place is crawling with liberals, socialists, commies, welfare dirt-bags, and other such ilk.

I can drive to Cleveland in less time than it takes to get to NYC. This is a big state geographically. Most of it is actually quite rural and sparsely populated. We are not all from that cesspool NYC, and those of us who are not have essentially no say in anything.

I don't understand this blaming entire populations of entire states because the place is under control of the left. What do you suggest I do? Go around killing them?

Remember when that vile, traitor Clinton was elected President? Twice? You should be ashamed of yourself. After all, the people of your country put him in office.

See what I mean?

The people in my state voted for Klinton, twice, and for that I am deeply ashamed.

I don't make excuses and point fingers elsewhere. The fact that I voted for President Bush doesn't make any difference.
