Alphonse D'Amto was spot on when he called Shlomo Shummer a schmuck.
Actually, I believe D'Amato called him a Putz, not a schmuck. I don't know Yiddish, so I can't tell you which is worse. On the other hand, everyone calls Chuckie a schmuck because it's an obvious Spoonerism.
Ironically, the "putz" comment hurt D'Amato because the press jumped on it in a way that was totally out of proportion particularly with their reaction to D'Amato's prior opponent who called him a "facist". Voters were outraged more than the press.
