"Congressman A" mentioned in the Abramoff indictment is a Louisiana Democrat

Jefferson is the dim who comandeered national guard troops to go to his home so he could secure documents that might implicate him in yet another bribery scandal.

Exactly how do you spell "schedenfreude?"

Well, it's "Schadenfreude" and it sure is fun sometimes....

What idiots in this day and age would fall for such a "Nigerian scam" anyway?? These fools should be prosecuted for terminal stupidity as well as corruption!!

Business opportunity in Nigeria? Did he get an email about some rich Nigerian guy who needed to transfer some funds and would reward him handsomely for his help?

The congressman told me of a business opportunity in Nigeria...

I'll bet he's the one who has been telling me about all of those business opportunities in Nigeria.

Can't be.

All the Dems and their pundits/commentators have been saying this is a Republican scandal, that no Dems were involved.

This is what is referred to as a "two-fer." The first Congresscritter to fall in the Abramoff scandal is both a Democrat and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. Has anyone told Howard Dean about this? I'll bet he screams at the news.

Congressman Billybob

"The bribery probe is separate from the ongoing investigation of lobbyist Jack Abramoff , who pleaded guilty last week to federal charges. Abramoff's investigation could bring down some lawmakers and their aides, including a former aide to Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas."

Wait... but this has nothing to do with Abramoff.

Remember... Wm J (D) LA was the guy who hijacked the national guard to get to his house in NO after the flooKatrina), and also got the troops to help him move "personal items" up and out of harms way

"The congressman told me of a business opportunity in Nigeria,"

What?

I'm still waiting for the Nigerian banker guy to send me those funds he wanting to ship out of Nigeria. I've still got the letter from him. He seemed nice. I hope he got my bank account number I sent him for the transfer. The funds should be transferred just any day now. Soon, I'm sure. Wonder if he knew Abramoff?

The bribery probe is separate from the ongoing investigation of lobbyist Jack Abramoff , who pleaded guilty last week to federal charges. Abramoff's investigation could bring down some lawmakers and their aides, including a former aide to Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

So, it seems this is a different scandal.

Which we hadn't heard of.

Because it only involves Democrats.

Admin, I think the parenthesized part of the title should be deleted.

Nope. That would be a Congressman Ney, of Ohio. Jefferson is not a Committee Chair.

U.S. Representative William Jennings Jefferson is now serving is eighth term as a Member of the United States House of Representatives. Representing the 2nd District of Louisiana since 1991, he is the first African-American to be elected to Congress in Louisiana since Reconstruction. Jefferson is an active and senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee and its subcommittee on Trade. He is also a member of the House Committee on the Budget. He serves as Co-Chair of the Africa Trade and Investment Caucus as well as the Congressional Caucuses on Brazil and Nigeria. Jefferson is also the current Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute founded by members of the Congressional Black Caucus in 1976.
