The same thing that happens to all the other fathers that don't pay maintenance for their children.....

they laugh it up talking sports in line at the liquor store, spend their dough on cheap girls in bars, while mom gets ridiculed for being a burden on society and not being around much for the kids.....

in essence...nothing....

(oooops, sorry- sore spot...)

I know it must be, Howlin, but thanks for making the efforts that you already have. We'll know you're lurking and will keep posting for you to read. (Try soaking in a hot tub of water to ease those aches and pains.)

Not in Colorado, as far as I know. From what I've read men are paying up. The payments are also high and the courts have little means of adjusting payments.

I know how frustrating this is for you. One-handed typing, especially when one is sore, is just NO fun.

Maybe you should hire a stenographer to just type what you say for the next few weeks. Ha! I can just see it...secretary sitting at the keyboard, you looking at the screen, and you say:

Address this to Idiot Poster! Tell him he doesn't know what he's talking about! Go over to my home page and get that picture of the "send lightning thing!" Hurry, hurry!

I bet you could get a college kid to0 do it for you. Of course, you would probably end up with s PETA member with three nose rings, but it's a thought!

One other point that they keep forgetting is that they are losing more and more voters every year. The largest percentage of abortions are performed on Liberals, and the smallest on conservatives, therefore those conservative babies are alive and becoming voters, and the Liberal mom's babies are not anything, they were never born. The terrible infanticide horror has come back to haunt the Feminists and they still do not get it, and neither do the idiot liberal men that thought they were getting away with unlimited sex, and no responsibility.

In a way I think that is semi fair if the child was born during the marriage he is in someway acknowledging it as his.

If however if the child is cited as reason for divorce that IMHO is a different matter.

We have a government department that deals with it in Britain but it got it grossly wrong - it is a mess. Talking to people who are in the situation it still seems to me if they will not pay they somehow get away with it.

It was much better when the courts dealt with it more control on both sides now a ruling is a ruling a little room for maneuver

Samantha, have you read Opinion Journal's James Taranto? He's been on this for some time. He calls it the "Roe Effect" and makes the same points you are. There is a book making the same point, Freakenomics. Not sure if I spelled it right.

Hate to jump in here but is anyone listening to Brian Whitman talking about the homo on the range?

His attitude is incredible.

BTW ec, I watched that movie today. It was as you said, one of the funniest ever. I laughed so hard I was crying. The part about John Wayne and Rush were the best. Still laughing.

I'm indebted to you for the recommendation.

Carry on, sorry to just jump in here.

There may be more, I am not sure. To be honest, this is so far away from affecting me that I didn't pay enough attention to the specifics. I'm sure it will be coming out in the near future anyway and I'll learn more about it.

On the other hand some men seem to have been victimized unfairly.

Yet again those who are in the wrong rarely get caught but those who through no fault of their own miss a payment or to seem to get the book thrown at them.

You thank that is amazing...

they almost wouldn't give me a divorce because he wasn't paying support....

YUP! They laugh at me when I try to file for support- then when they NEVER follow through...they just sit around waiting for him to get a job- and tell his employer that he is supposed to pay support...so of course- he has yet to volunteer this.....

then when I try to get a divorce- the judge actually said there was no way she would grant a divorce if I didn't pursue him in the courts....ie- get an attorney......

so- raising 3 kids without support- and I am supposed to pay for a dovorce and pay to go after support.....otherwise- I am FORCED to stay married to him,.... I looked her in the eye and told her that she just turned me into a slave......we found a different judge.....LOL!

"Thanks, I have learned more here than all 200 hours of college."

Very good. FReepers aim to please!

Another thing. In order for a decision to have any Stare Decisis (precedence) value, the opinion MUST be published.

As an appeals court judge, his decisions would only have effect in his district. In other words, a decision made in California only has effect in the 9th Circuit (the western states).

The same issue may have another outcome in Iowa. When there are disparate results for the same issue, then the Supremes come into play. They resolve the issue. Of course, in the 9th Circuit situation, the rulings there are more often than not ruled as unconstitutional before that happens.
