DeLay Will Quit Leadership Post in House

WASHINGTON

Embattled Rep. Tom DeLay decided Saturday to give up his post as House majority leader, clearing the way for new leadership elections among House Republicans eager to shed the taint of scandal, two officials said.

These officials said DeLay, R-Texas, was preparing a letter informing fellow House Republicans of his decision. These officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt the formal announcement.

DeLay is battling campaign finance charges in Texas and was forced to step aside temporarily as majority leader last fall after he was charged in his home state. He has consistently maintained his innocence and said he intended to resume his leadership post once cleared.

This is such a crock, the only thing Delay is guilty of is helping to get more Republicans elected to congress.

All campaign finance laws need to be repealed.

Every donation to a political candidate, at it's root, is an attempted bribe.

Krauthammer was just on Fox saying Abramoff investigation is what brought Delay down. Two scandals at once and the fact that Abramoff investigation is going to take too long. It'll hurt the Party. I fear Bush is a lame duck.

It also says that leadership wanted to reform our nation's intelligence agencies as soon as possible. It didn't say that leadership didn't want immigration reform. There's a logical difference.

Don't be a DUmmy. You can't claim both that Delay is an effective leader, and yet that he has no input into the "House GOP Leadership." Both are mutually exclusive.

So instead of documenting your point you are now hiding behind name calling.

There are some self styled principle advocates running around FR trying to undercut the GOP. It is, and always has been, about strictly and only denying power to the party that is least conservative. You will never ever ever get people as conservative as you wish. You must marshall your forces to deny victory to the opposition because that's all you are ever going to be able to achieve. And a magnificent achievement it is.

Did DeLay cite his dance with Earle as the reason for stepping aside?

I didn't hear his statement but I would think the Abramoff stuff is the greater reason. IMO, Earle would've proved a minor distraction but Abramoff (assuming DeLay is also innocent here), is a larger distraction which would have made it much harder for him as majority leader and for the Republican portion of the House.
This move doesn't surprise me and it was likely the right thing to do if he's really interested in allowing the Republican agenda to move forward. Nevertheless, the MSM will spin this as a victory for Earle.
Now, the House Republicans better get a good conservative as majority leader and not some male cheerleader! Mike Pence has been named here on FR, but I don't know much about him. If someone could fill me in or provide a link (about Pence), I would appreciate it.

Quoting a very cheezy Kenny Rogers song, "You got to know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em." Reality is what it is. Every member of the House has an election in 10 months, and the GOP caucus has to get this out of the way now.

If RATS get control of the House, it is going to get very ugly. For instance, John Conyers will be the Judiciary Committee chairman. Impeachment hearings would begin within ten minutes of that and the press would be handed a parade of lies against the President and the GOP.

He flew South (to Mexico) a long time ago and never flew back.

All what you do is bash the Republicans and President Bush. Please do not tell me that you voted for Bush twice, and you worked you a** off in 2004 to elect President Bush. No one who bash the President and the Republicans as you do, is going to sacrifice one second to work for their elections.

The Abramoff scandal will hurt both the Republican AND the Democratic Party. Watch to see some major third parties pop up. The American people are already disgusted with Both parties. The Abramoff scandal will only confirm that.
