DeLay Will Quit Leadership Post in House

By DAVID ESPO AP Special Correspondent

WASHINGTON

Embattled Rep. Tom DeLay decided Saturday to give up his post as House majority leader, clearing the way for new leadership elections among House Republicans eager to shed the taint of scandal, two officials said.

These officials said DeLay, R-Texas, was preparing a letter informing fellow House Republicans of his decision. These officials spoke on condition of anonymity, saying they did not want to pre-empt the formal announcement.

DeLay is battling campaign finance charges in Texas and was forced to step aside temporarily as majority leader last fall after he was charged in his home state. He has consistently maintained his innocence and said he intended to resume his leadership post once cleared.

The same "good man" who rammed through "highway" and "farm" pork in the tens of billions,

I'm tired of your excessive non stop bashing of republicans as you nit pick over every detail. Why don't you bash the democrats with the same zeal. There is plenty to bash about.

There is the fact the dems set up the social security mess and then tear down any republican plan to fix it. Because they see this as the way back to power, The dems want us to lose in iraq and are trying everything they know how to do to make sure it happens. They are blocking every attempt at tax reform.

IN SHORT, THE DEMS WANT AMERICA TO FAIL SO THEY CAN RETURN TO POWER. And yet you continue on your jihad to bash republicans.

If DeLay did "nothing wrong," then he was remiss to give up the leadership without a real fight. He would have had to give it up on Feb. 1 anyway, wouldn't he, had not the Earle charges been resolved? The message is always the same, it seems: The GOP is too cowardly to fight.

Republicans believe in doing the right thing which is to win at the ballot box.

You're right; that's all they believe in. But that's not the right thing.

I'd give a lot of money to find out who Randy Cunningham visited with while wearing a wire. Pelosi, Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Clinton et. al had better be clean as the serpents' teeth they are...

So would I but I won't be holding my breath if they were recorded. Just take another look at your list. They are the old media's darlings and socialist. They will be protected at all cost. This country be damned, they must protect their people.

Still, we cannot defeat Democrats is we don't stand for anything other than the mantra that "at least we are not Democrats."

Moreover, such Democrats would have been immediately suspicious had Cunningham visited them and began "talking" about corrupt practices. They wouldn't have said much. The Democrats may be evil, but they are smart.

Maybe because the Republicans ran on conservative principles and then sold them out to stay in power. We know where the Democrats stand - unfortunately many conservatives have decided to be irresponsible leaders in order to stay in power. They deserve are scorn and will be kicked out of office because they are incompetent at running our country.

Why don't you bash the democrats with the same zeal. There is plenty to bash about.

Because the 'Rat party is 100% corrupt, evil, banal and useless. That's been clear and stipulated long ago - it's obvious.

Republicans, on the other hand, have been feeding Americans lies for decades about how they were going to reform, shrink and minimize government if given the opportunity.

Now that they've got the reins of power, we see what Republicans really do: lie, grow government, enhance pork and steal money from Americans.

This needs to be challenged, always and everywhere. The Republican Party has no principles, no core values that it will defend to the end, and it's harming America.

Cheap, lying politicians have got to go, no matter the party label. And a party that enables and elects them has got to go, too.

DeLay to relinquish Congress post

Embattled Republican politician Tom DeLay will not attempt to reclaim his post as majority leader of the US House of Representatives, officials say.

Mr DeLay was forced to step aside temporarily after he was indicted in Texas on a campaign finance case.

The politician is accused of laundering corporate contributions for use in Republican campaigns in the state.

He has maintained his innocence and had until now said he intended to resume his leadership post once cleared.

His decision to quit clears the way for Republicans to choose a new leader to represent them in the House of Representatives.

Mr DeLay, a close ally of President George W Bush, was one of the most powerful politicians in Washington before his indictment in September.

Mr DeLay's spokesman said the politician would retain his seat in the House, Reuters news agency reported.

The Democrats may be evil, but they are smart.

I agree. And to not recognize that fact, one would do so only at one's own peril.

I do bash them - nonstop. Take a look at my posting history.

I EXPECT more from our side. If we become them on critical issues like budget, spending, border security, etc, then we BECOME them. We will be surely destroyed as if we were attacked militarily.

We have won 7 of the last 10 presidential elections and we have controlled the congress since 1994. We have been defeating the democrats in all these elections. If you want to taste defeat, please go and join the democrats and see how real defeat really feels. I bet you will not like it.

It galls me to no end that we sacrifice our own on the "alter of perfection", while the rat party continues it's march into socialism. Politics is a dirty business and none of them have "clean hands". Hell, the rats won't even give the bribes back!
