Latest Dem Charge: Alito's a Carnivore!
Powerline ^ | Jan. 6, 2006 | John Hinderaker

One of the names on the Democrats' witness list for the Alito hearings is Stephen R. Dujack, who, according to the Democrats' press release, "has appeared many times as a guest columnist in publications throughout the country." Given that the Democrats bill Dujack as a columnist, it's fair to assume that they are aware of this column in the Los Angeles Times, which was spotted by the Capital Research Center:

Like the victims of the Holocaust, animals are rounded up, trucked hundreds of miles to the kill floor and slaughtered. Comparisons to the Holocaust are not only appropriate but inescapable because, whether we wish to admit it or not, cows, chickens, pigs and turkeys are as capable of feeling loneliness, fear, pain, joy and affection as we are. To those who defend the modern-day holocaust on animals by saying that animals are slaughtered for food and give us sustenance, I ask: If the victims of the Holocaust had been eaten, would that have justified the abuse and murder? Did the fact that lampshades, soaps and other "useful" products were made from their bodies excuse the Holocaust? No. Pain is pain. Dujack will be part of the Democrats' effort to paint Alito as a dangerous extremist.

According to the Democrats' press release, Dujack will testify about Judge Alito's long-ago "membership in the Concerned Alumni of Princeton (CAP). Formed in 1972, CAP has been publicly criticized for its policies opposing Princeton's decision to admit women and minorities." The Democrats have gotten so used to making wild charges that I wonder whether they even bother to read their own propaganda. The decision to admit women at formerly all-male schools like Princeton was indeed controversial, but the Democrats' suggestion that CAP "oppos[ed] Princeton's decision to admit minorities" is ridiculous.

I prefer the furry ones. Fury animals tend to inflict pain -- especially bears.

Wow, what a misleading article... Dujakc is almost certainly on the list to talk about Alito's membership in Concerned Alumni of Princeton, not anything to do with vegetarianism.

Dujack has been writing op-eds about Alito like this one

I think the author's point is that if this columnist has such a distorted view of the holocaust (that comparisons of the treatment of animals by the meat industry are morally equivalent with the slaughter of Jews by Hitler's goons) as documented in the column cited, then perhaps his credibility as a witness regarding Alito's membership in, and the activities of, Concerned Alumni of Princeton might also be called into question. In that regard, his tarring Alito as anti-women and racist with the CAP brush should cause about as much concern as would the probability that Alito likes to eat meat.

Oh, damn. I haven't bought NEAR enough popcorn for these hearings. I may have to rent one of those industrial/theater type poppers.

I checked the bios of everyone on the 'witness' list. The entire bunch are nothing but raving moonbats, commie anti catholic bigots like the schmuck chuckie, and poverty pimps all passing as law professors. Most also testified against Roberts' nomination - surprise, surprise.

Dubya could nominate Jesus Christ and this group would oppose him.

I wonder if they've hired the Code Pinkos to pack the hearing room and disrupt the hearings yet?

I'd bet money on that.
Somehow, someway, Chuckie and/or Leaky Leahy's staff will get them in the room.
