Documentary: LBJ Knew Cubans Killed JFK

Cuba was behind the assassination of President John F. Kennedy claims an ex-agent of Cuba's secret intelligence service.

Featured in a German TV documentary, "Rendezvous with Death," Oscar Marino - a defector from the Castro regime - said the Cubans were desperate to eliminate Kennedy, an opponent of the revolution, who wanted to kill Castro.

"You ask why we took Oswald?" he said to the German film maker Wilfried Huismann. "Oswald was a dissident: he hated his country. He possessed certain characteristics. There wasn't anyone else. You take what you can get ... Oswald volunteered to kill Kennedy."

Oswald, a Castro supporter who had once defected to the Soviet Union and was active in the communist-backed Fair Play for Cuba Committee after returning to the U.S., once traveled to Mexico City not long before Kennedy was shot. Although it was widely reported that he remained there after visits to the Soviet embassy, one high placed intelligence official once confided that there was evidence that Oswald also made a clandestine visit to Havana before returning to the U.S.

According to Britain's Telegraph newspaper, Huismann spent three years trying to convince various people to break their silence about Oswald's alleged Cuba connections. The Telegraph reported that the resultant documentary is based on testimony by former U.S., Cuban and Russian agents, KGB files and Mexican archives.

Among them was a retired FBI agent, Lawrence Keenan, now in his eighties. The Telegraph says he was sent after the assassination to trace Oswald's footsteps in Mexico.

Keenan said he found evidence linking the Cubans with the murder - prompting FBI director J. Edgar Hoover to withdraw Keenan from the assignment after three days there on the orders of President Lyndon Johnson.

"This was perhaps the worst investigation the FBI was ever involved in," said Keenan.

"I realized that I was used. I felt ashamed. We missed a moment in history."

The Telegraph recalled that the Johnson administration, considered Mexico City a "Pandora's Box," fearing that a war with Cuba would result if the truth were revealed to the American people.

"They were afraid of what will happen," Keenan said. "They didn't want to . . . know the truth for fear it would mean we go to war. Johnson sincerely feared for his own life." That's why it was convenient for the administration to depict Oswald as a loner, acting on his own.

General Alexander Haig, a military adviser to Kennedy and Johnson and, later, President Reagan's secretary of state, says in the film that Johnson was terrified his people would learn the truth.

"He [Johnson] said 'we simply must not allow the American people to believe that Fidel Castro could have killed our president.' And the reason was that there would be a Right-wing uprising in America, which would keep the Democratic party out of power for two generations."

General Haig added: "He [Johnson] was convinced Castro killed Kennedy, and he took it to his grave."

Also revealed in Huismann's documentary is the secret war, involving murder and sabotage plots, between Castro and the Kennedy brothers, when John and Robert Kennedy allegedly planned eight assassination attempts on Castro, all of which failed.

Huismann's explanation for the failures is a Cuban who fought alongside Castro, but who later fell out with him. He says that this man was "contracted" by Robert Kennedy to murder the "Maximo Lider", and was provided by the CIA with pistols disguised as fountain pens and powerful poison to carry out the task. Castro however always learned of the plots.

In the film it is alleged that in November 1963 the Cuban took his last order from Robert Kennedy to murder Castro. The act, involving poison and the fountain pen, was to be carried out on Nov 22, the very day Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.

"Unfortunately, Castro was better than us," said a CIA agent in the film who is not identified.

Marino said Oswald was recruited to the secret service organization by the same agent who had been recruited to kill Castro, a year before the Kennedy assassination.

"In other words, the very man Robert Kennedy recruited to kill Fidel Castro hired his brother's murderer," Huismann told the Telegraph. Moreover KGB files released in Moscow document a meeting between Oswald and the Cuban, who is now a retired surgeon living in Madrid. Interviewed for the film, however, he denied any connection to Oswald, calling it an "outrageous lie."

Marino failed to say whether Castro had direct knowledge of the Oswald assassination plan.

Huismann wrote his film with Gus Russo, author of the 1998 book on the Castro-JFK rivalry, "Live by the Sword."

If it isn't true that someone in the US gov't knows Castro did it, why are we still boycotting Cuba?

Considering the current political climate in this country, this statement seems all too plausible. Why didn't LBJ just make up some more lies and invade Cuba?

Probably both. LBJ, although I wasn't alive during his presidency, was the worst president of the U.S. He and Clinton are alike in that they only cared about themselves and what steps to take to keep power.

1. We should soon know if Gen Haig disassociates himself from this quote.

2. An uprising against CUBA Maybe???? And the related facts regarding the (2) Kennedy's trying to kill Castro, and failing eight times???? Ya think maybe a few people would want to take revenge on Cuba (instead of the mindless war he sent millions to wage on the other side of the world?)

when this story broke yesterday, i sent a snippet to a friend who has studied the Kennedy assasination extensively. he commented:

Hi! It is an interesting theory. However, there
is not much real evidence to support it. The pictures
at the Russian Mexican
Embassy show an Oswald imposter. Further, the
assassination was a complex plot--not a one man
operation. In addition, Oswald did work for various
U.S. intelligence agencies. There is also no record
of any payment to Oswald who lived a hand to mouth
existance.

LBJ and Hoover did it through their contacts with the mob. They told the Kennedy family that MONGOOSE (JFK and Bobby's attempt to kill Castro) was infiltrated by Castro and turned on JFK.

LBJ was being forced off the ticket in '64 because the Senate was to open new Bobby Baker investigations in Dec. '63. LBJ was looking at prison time. The week following the assassination Senator Ken Keating who was heading the Baken investigation canceled it. LBJ was now our leader in the Cold War.

Hoover was given life-time tenure as head of FBI by LBJ shortly thereafter. Go figure.

If Castro was behind the assassination of a Democratic president and his Democratic successor took effective action against Castro's regime, how would that have hurt Democrats?

Some corrections and some information about LBJ’s wartime experiences.

First, LBJ was directly commissioned from the House of Representatives into the USN as a Lt Commander.
Second, LBJ was conducting a “fact finding tour” of the Southwest Pacific Theater the summer (1942) before a re-election campaign.
There is a picture of LBJ poorly dressed (sleeves rolled up, tie half undone and wheel hat on the back of his head) as a USN LtCmdr standing near a B-17C being used as a long range transport. The aircraft had run out of gas in central Australia.
Third, the B-26 the LBJ rode in departed the airbase about the same time as the rest of the aircraft but returned about a hour earlier than the rest of the mission survivors flying on just one engine.
There is no way that a twin engine aircraft flying on one engine is faster than the same series aircraft flying on two engines.
The medal the General McArthur ordered presented to LBJ was the Silver Star - not the relatively minor Bronze Star. (The Bronze can we rewarded for combat support while the Silver Star is only awarded for heroic acts).
Lastly, shortly after the award of the Silver Star LBJ was ordered by Congress to return to the US because he had important, war related, business to perform in Congress.

You an web crawl and easily find numerous references to everything except the photo. That I am still looking for (its worth a cold one when I find it).

Duplicate thread.

This is a repetition of what many of us have already known since it happened.

The explanation for the cover-up is quite simple. If officials had admitted the truth, then there would have been pressure to "do something about it". But most officials wanted to continue to live in a world of PRETEND.

It is no different today. "Everybody" in Washington knew who Valerie Plame was and where she worked. But they PRETEND that they didn't know. They pretend that there was a "leak".

"Everybody" knew that the Bush administration was eavesdropping... just read the anti-war literature starting in October 2001 from both the ANSWR-NION left and from the libertarian Harry Browne types. But we PRETEND that it was a "secret" just recently revealed.

The same can be said for many events about the Vietnam War and recent and ancient history. Each side has its talking points. When the facts don't fit the current set of talking points, we PRETEND that the facts don't exist until it finally becomes convenient to DISCOVER / LEAK / EXPOSE which really means it has become convenient to drop the game of PRETEND for that fact.

"Huismann also unearthed a U.S. intelligence report shown to Johnson which said Cuban secret service chief Fabian Escalante flew via Mexico City to Dallas on the day of Kennedy's assassination, and back again the same day."

Cuba plots to assasinate the POTUS and has its "secret service chief" in Dallas on the day of the hit? I don't think so. If this was a Cuban op, this guy would not have been within a 1,000 miles of Dallas. Also, would the Soviets have let this go down - especially using a hitter that had previously defected to the USSR and was a known communist? Soviets (and, perhaps to a lesser degree, the Cubans) were not eager for a nuclear war. Also, did either Castro or the Soviets realy think that Johnson would be an upgrade for them over Kennedy, who they rolled during the Missile Crisis (which is only now being reported in the MSM but the Reds must have known all along)? Finally, Johnson may have thought that it was the Cubans that killed Kennedy, but I am not sure that really bolsters the argument. I think his former assistant and mistress Doris Kearns Goodwin referred to him as delusional at times. Perhaps it is off the point, but I don't see Oswald making those shots anyway.

If it isn't true that someone in the US gov't knows Castro did it, why are we still boycotting Cuba?

Here's a better question: If Oswald was the lone assassin, then why are the records sealed until 2040? Answer this question and the riddle is solved.

I probably won't live long enough to see the JFK assassination records unsealed, but then again, something tells me when 2040 comes around, assuming the USA is still here despite our headlong pursuit towards Socialism, I believe the can will just be kicked down the road a bit farther. If there wasn't a conspiracy to kill the President, be it involving LBJ, Cuban, the mob or whoever, then unseal the records now and end the speculation once and for all!
