A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

"Top SIX Reasons Why I Don't Have
a Really Neat Post For Today"

(Sorry, couldn't come up with 10 this time.)

 6.  I have taken pity on Santa's poor reindeer and decided to knit sweaters and matching booties for ALL
of them.

 5.  I simply cannot pass up a 75% off sale and am attempting to buy up every last roll of leftover Christmas gift wrap in the Central Valley.

 4.  I am helping Chachi (who made out like a bandit this Christmas) write his 'thank you' notes....and he is VERY long-winded.

 3.  I am still checking into becoming a temporary resident of New York so the next time The Mayor runs for office, I can vote for him!

 2.  I am learning how to grow pineapples for Wolfie's pies. Only the best for our Wolfie! :-)

 1. And, the number one reason I have nothing to post today is because.........(drum roll.....)......Santa brought me the fifth and final chapter in the Myst computer game series, "Myst V - End of Ages". I have been deeply immersed in the puzzles and awesome graphics and music - to the exclusion of EVERYTHING else. (IMO, it is the best computer game series ever created - bar none!) :-)

And that's the truth!!!

John's Two Cents will return next Thursday.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Just finished watching "War of the Worlds". I agree with both of you. The special effects were very good, but you are right NnB, it was downright silly in some places. It was impossible to take it seriously enough to be in the least bit frightened. I LOL'ed through a lot of it. And, of course, the ending (Cruise meeting up with his son and his ex-wife) was entirely predictable.

Well, I guess it is just intended to be "entertainment", Hollywood style. It was worth watching and the one thing that made the movie truly memorable was "Rachel". That little girl was the star of the movie and stole the show, IMO.

I remember seeing the orignial "War of the Worlds" when I was a little kid. Scared the heck out of me!

Just finished watching "War of the Worlds".

It seems a little pointless for them to try to portray miracles without giving anyOne credit, doesn't it?

The ghost of Orson Welles probably would want to crack some heads over that waste of resources.

If I were he, I would be prouder of my role in "The Muppet Movie" than of any connection with this travesty.

You must be a Hollywood Leftist if you can believe that we are less important than microbes, but there is no Supreme Being or Almighty, except as a comic relief "Man Behind The Curtain."

Good morning everyone, today is mum funeral I would ask for your prayers for dad and me.

We have made the decision that dad will remain in chapel and not go to the graveside for the interment as the temperature today in our area is forecast-ed as just above freezing with rain, snow and sleet. Dad has various vascular problems so to be out in this would not be a good idea.

A picture of mum, dad and me from the mid 1990s.

I will scan and post the leaflet we have had printed when I get back from the funeral.

The Options

Read:
Luke 16:19-31

Being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes. —Luke 16:23

Bible In One Year: Genesis 13-15; Matthew 5:1-26

cover Last time I checked, nobody likes having problems—problems with money, problems with cars, problems with computers, problems with people, problems with health. We would all prefer a life with as few difficulties as possible.

So, if you were to offer people the choice between (1) a future totally free of problems, sorrow, tears, and pain, and (2) a future full of pain, suffering, regret, and anguish—they would choose option one, right?

Jesus died on the cross to give us opportunity to experience that option. If we repent of our sins and trust Him as our Savior, He has promised us a life of fellowship with God in a place the Bible calls heaven. A place with no problems. A place where there are no more tears.

People living in a problem-filled world ought to be standing in line to grab that offer. Unfortunately, many haven't heard the good news; others have refused to trust Christ. When people die without Jesus, it's too late to take the offer, and they go to a place of torment the Bible calls hell.

Do you hate trouble and pain? Turn to Jesus and accept His offer of forgiveness. Your problems in this world won't disappear, but you'll reserve a home in heaven—a place of eternal joy and peace with God. —Dave Branon

Jesus is calling, "Today you must choose!"
If you delay, you surely will lose;
Listening now, you can hear the Lord's voice,
Take His salvation—make heaven your choice! —Hess

You must accept God's Son today if you want to live in heaven's sunshine tomorrow.

Prayers lifted up for the family dear. Hope dad will go along with not going to gravesite but if he insists, better let him. Thanks for checking in. Know this is difficult.

Good morning, Mayor. Hope you have a great day today and have indoor projects out of the rain.

Thanks for our beautiful lesson from God's Word. Our only option should be to belong to the Lord.

You be careful out their on the roof..and stay safe...and as dry as possible.

It was a very important lesson. We have to be able to make the right decision in spiritual situations. And when we "study to show ourselves approved...." it helps in knowing which option you want to take. Prayers that you get through those problems.

Well, I didn't give it nearly the in-depth analysis that you did, but I don't disagree with anything you said.

I didn't start watching the movie with high expectations, and my (mediocre) expectations were met. I generally expect movies to entertain me. (If I want to be educated or enlightened, I will turn to books.)

The predictability factor took most of the enjoyment out of it for me. But I will say again, Dakota Fanning did a great job in that film.
