Cuba 'paid Oswald to kill Kennedy'
Herald Sun ^ | 5 January 2006 | Mark Trevelyan

CUBA lay behind the 1963 assassination of President John F Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald and its agents provided the gunman with money and support, an award-winning German director says in a new documentary film.

Wilfried Huismann spent three years researching Rendezvous with Death, based on interviews with former Cuban secret agents, US officials and a Russian intelligence source, and on research in Mexican security archives.

The film, shown to journalists in Berlin, says Oswald travelled to Mexico City by bus in September 1963, seven weeks before the Kennedy shooting, and met agents at the Cuban embassy there who paid him $US6500 ($8790).

Oscar Marino, a former Cuban agent and a key source for the documentary, told Huismann that Oswald himself had volunteered for the assassination mission and Havana had exploited him.

"Oswald was a dissident. He hated his country...Oswald offered to kill Kennedy," Marino said in the film.

"He was so full of hate, he had the idea. We used him...He was a tool."

He said he knew with certainty that the assassination was an operation of the Cuban secret service G-2, but would not say if it was ordered by President Fidel Castro.

Oswald was shot dead by Jack Ruby two days after killing Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

The film argues Cuba wanted to eliminate Kennedy as the chief enemy of its Communist revolution, and portrays him and Castro as duelling opponents each trying to assassinate the other first.

Former CIA official Sam Halpern told Huismann: "He (Castro) beat us. He bested us. He came out on top, and we lost." Laurence Keenan, an officer of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who was sent to Mexico City immediately after Kennedy's death to investigate a possible Cuban connection, said he was recalled after just three days and the probe was aborted.

"This was perhaps the worst investigation the FBI was ever involved in," Keenan said. "I realised that I was used. I felt ashamed. We missed a moment in history."

When will the 4th book on LBJ be out do you know?

I wasn't very political back then but I remember my father hated LBJ because he remembered all his dirty tricks. My father was very Conservative and it must have rubbed off on me. There were very few Republicans in Texas then.

This may piss some off here but someone should have shot him after what he did to those brave men at the "Bay of Pigs!"

So I say who cares, I don't.

One thing is certain: They didn't ONLY send Oswald.

Anybody that thinks he was a lone gunman is insane.

Or Arlen Specter.

But I repeat myself.

Oswald could not hit water if he fell out of a boat.

And you have sources better at judging rifle marksmanship than the US Marines?

(200 yards seated rapid : 9 out of 10 into the central area of a head and shouders target.)

Just because a person is in the Marines does not mean he is an excellent marksman. Would you not agree that the Marine weaponry he qualified at 1 pt. above Marksman with is a tad bit better than the $18 dollar Italian job?

BTW, Why would such an efficient Marine like Oswald not shoot when he had the target at point blank range and could not have missed, only to shoot later when the target would become much more difficult?

You need better sources than Oliver Stone

Just because a person is in the Marines does not mean he is an excellent marksman.

Marine traing can help. And I gave you the actual performance Oswald made on the range, Wednesday 19 December 1956, three weeks into basic training,

Would you not agree that the Marine weaponry he qualified at 1 pt. above Marksman with is a tad bit better than the $18 dollar Italian job?
yes the M-1 is a tad better than the Carcano. Your point being?
BTW, Why would such an efficient Marine like Oswald not shoot when he had the target at point blank range and could not have missed, only to shoot later when the target would become much more difficult?
"more difficult" is relative. All shots that day were easy. But speculating: Maybe LHO couldn't shoot a guy in the face.

I think this is probably one of the most likely conspiracy scenarios given Oswald's connections with the Communists. The Russians probably used a proxy to get back at the late President Kennedy and Oswald was probably the perfect person to pull it off.

From reading Gerald Posner's book Case Closed, even Posner thinks that the Communist connection is one of the more plausible ones.

Hammer, head, nail. It has always been my view that Ruby's actions indicated mob involvement in the Kennedy assasination

The Chicago mob had stood behind him and then the administration neglected them after the election. It pissed off (Gianncona?) right?

I appreciate your research tip.

On December 21, 1956, Oswald qualified as a "sharpshooter". Lee Harvey Oswald obtained a score of 212 with an M1 rifle, only two points above the minimum for the "sharpshooter" level, the middle of three qualification levels in the USMC: "Marksman", "Sharpshooter" and "Expert".

On May 6 1959: At another shooting qualification with the M1 rifle, Lee Harvey Oswald obtained a score of 191, i.e. only one point above the minimum needed to qualify as a "marksman". He almost flunked.

I agree training can help. However, His training in the USMC appears not to have helped.

My point is that with the M-1 and under the supervision of the USMC, he is most likely a "Marksman". Shots fired downhill at a moving target require a large amount of skill.
Even with a good rifle this is difficult. With the Carcano a marksman like LHO used he could not hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Good point... I never thought of that. However I cannot think of LHO as any type of killer.

The left loves Castro far more than they ever loved Kennedy.

Anybody that thinks he was a lone gunman is insane.
And anybody who thinks a conspiracy ending in the death of a president can be covered up never heard of watergate. Can't cover up a burglary. Can cover up the conspiracy-assasination of the age.

The flaws of the "lone gunman" theory are nothing compared to the "coverup was successful" theory.

Great quotes from a great book.

Its too bad that the facts always get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.

Whenever I mention that I believe Oswald was the lone shooter, I always like to ask the person how many Kennedy conspiracy theories are out there. 10, 50, 500, or maybe 1000 different theories have been put forward? Only one theory can be right however. Now if only one can be right, isn't it just as believable that none of them are?

It went way beyond neglecting the mob; Bobby Kennedy actively went after the mob after he became attorney general. It probably didn't help either that Jack was sleeping with Giancana's girlfriend.

In one episode of the Family Guy, Hinkley is released, and fires a gun into the air. Out of nowhere, Jodie Foster walks up and says "wow, you fired that gun reeeaaal gooood. Maybe I was wrong about you." and they walk off arm in arm. HA!

I was alive at the time in college. I remember many news articles that where never answered. The Warren report, as far as I recall, was heavily redacted, portions were sealed for 50 years. Autopsy records were filtered and many sealed or redacted.
If all this "secret" info is released then I'll be satisfied. Having lived thru those years with a pretty good memory and above average IQ, I don't go in for the usual conspiracy theories, not when it comes to JFK and LBJ.
One caveat: I definitely was NOT a fan of either one.

The conspiracy theory about the Unabomber is that he was also the Zodiac. Both were familiar with math/cryptography, had the same car, lived in Frisco at the same time etc...........

I have fired both weapons. The M1 garand is an excellent firearm. At 200 yds, in a prone position, I put 8 out of ten in the black the first time I ever fired a garand. The carcano was a piece of shit. Even using the scope that it came with and adjusting it several times , the performance was no where near as good as the garand without a scope. They are not the same weapon.
