Cuba 'paid Oswald to kill Kennedy'
Herald Sun ^ | 5 January 2006 | Mark Trevelyan

CUBA lay behind the 1963 assassination of President John F Kennedy by Lee Harvey Oswald and its agents provided the gunman with money and support, an award-winning German director says in a new documentary film.

Wilfried Huismann spent three years researching Rendezvous with Death, based on interviews with former Cuban secret agents, US officials and a Russian intelligence source, and on research in Mexican security archives.

The film, shown to journalists in Berlin, says Oswald travelled to Mexico City by bus in September 1963, seven weeks before the Kennedy shooting, and met agents at the Cuban embassy there who paid him $US6500 ($8790).

Oscar Marino, a former Cuban agent and a key source for the documentary, told Huismann that Oswald himself had volunteered for the assassination mission and Havana had exploited him.

"Oswald was a dissident. He hated his country...Oswald offered to kill Kennedy," Marino said in the film.

"He was so full of hate, he had the idea. We used him...He was a tool."

He said he knew with certainty that the assassination was an operation of the Cuban secret service G-2, but would not say if it was ordered by President Fidel Castro.

Oswald was shot dead by Jack Ruby two days after killing Kennedy in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

The film argues Cuba wanted to eliminate Kennedy as the chief enemy of its Communist revolution, and portrays him and Castro as duelling opponents each trying to assassinate the other first.

Former CIA official Sam Halpern told Huismann: "He (Castro) beat us. He bested us. He came out on top, and we lost." Laurence Keenan, an officer of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who was sent to Mexico City immediately after Kennedy's death to investigate a possible Cuban connection, said he was recalled after just three days and the probe was aborted.

"This was perhaps the worst investigation the FBI was ever involved in," Keenan said. "I realised that I was used. I felt ashamed. We missed a moment in history."

Why else have so many documents and evidence remained sealed?

Like which ones? And how many is "so many"? be specific.

Here's the post I wrote the last time someone had the same misconception you have:

How long will it be before the government makes the documents related to the Kennedy assassination unclassified?

Is "eleven years ago" soon enough for you? The President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992 (Public Law 102-526) ordered the review and release of pretty much all such records.

For example, if you want to see the 113 records released by the NSA under this act, see NSA JFK documents.

Summaries of the material can be found at the National Archives JFK Assassination Records webpage. The released material consists of more than 4.5 million pages of assassination-related records, photographs, motion pictures, sound recordings and artifacts.

The movie "JFK" by Oliver Stone was a giant load of conspiracy-theory propaganda, but it did serve on useful purpose: The public interest in the JFK assassination it raised, and the stink it made about the remaining unreleased records, lit a fire under Congress and they moved to release the records in 1992.

If you're wondering why you haven't heard of this, it's because the conspiracy theorists seldom talk about it, since the truckload of newly released material *still* fails to support their conspiracy fantasies.

As one satirical "newspaper" wrote in their classic "headline" for November 22, 1963, ridiculing the proliferation of wildly varying conspiracy theories, "KENNEDY SLAIN BY CIA, MAFIA, CASTRO, LBJ, TEAMSTERS, FREEMASONS: President Shot 129 Times From 43 Different Angles".

So what Amazing Revelations were revealed in these documents that the Grand Government Conspiracy had been "hiding" all these years? Nothing, really, which was a great disappointment for those who believed that the Real Story was somehow being concealed in them.

Except for a very few documents still dealing with classified or personal matters, pretty much all the "sealed" JFK documents have already been released over a decade ago.

Is the manuscript still extant? I know I can't be the only FReeper who'd find it intriguing.

Oswald may have been involved in the plot, but he couldn't shoot straight.

Oh yeah?

He [Oswald] was also trained in the use of the M1 rifle (2). On December 21, 1956, after three weeks of training, he shot 212, two points over the score required for a "sharpshooter" qualification, the second highest in the Marine Corps (3). Such a score indicated that from a standing position, he could hit a ten-inch bulls-eye, from a minimum of 200 yards, eight times out of ten (4).

[...] Those in charge of the marksmanship branch who were familiar with Oswald's record praised his ability and said he was easily capable of carrying out the JFK assassination. It "was an easy shot for a man with the equipment he had and his ability," said Sgt. [James] Zahm [the NCO in charge of the marksmanship training unit]. Major Eugene Anderson, of the marskmanship branch, said the assassination shots "were not particularly difficult" and that, based on his Marine record, "Oswald had full capabilities to make this shot."

-- "Case Closed", Gerald Posner, p. 20.

(3) Testimony of Lt. Col. Allison Folsom, WC Vol. VIII, p. 304.
(4) Testimony of Lt. Col. Donovan, WC Vol. VIII, p. 296.

Alexander Haig's comments on this the other day were that one reason LBJ was afraid to reveal that Cuba was behind the assassination was that there would be a backlash against the Democratic party and would ensure the right taking control of the country for 2 decades.

Its not speculation. Its a fact. The Bulgarian secret service hired Agca to carry out the hit on the Pope at the behest of the KGB......

Actually, reading that web link on this lady that you posted above, I'd say it wasn't published because the publisher realized that she was either a crackpot or a liar.....

Probably the investigation was moved away from Cuban involvement, but the logical response would have been a declaration of war on Cuba, and we had just been through THAT the year before.

He qualified as a Marine sharpshooter. More than competent to carry out what essentially amounted to "shooting a fish in a barrel".

If you've ever been to Dealy Plaza you know what I mean. The distance is so short that he could have done it one-handed and still had a 50/50 shot at hitting his target.....

The Warren Commission found he made the shots with the help of the magic bullet which caused SEVEN different wounds in JFK and Connally.

I butchered two deer, a doe and a fawn [the latter hit by mistake by the very embarassed hunter] at a processing facility some years ago that between them had five wounds from the same slug. The doe also had two slugs and a broadhead arrowpoint buried inside scar tissue within her from previous year's hunting seasons. I never realized the slug that finally took her life and her fawn's could be considered 'magic' since it wasn't unusual to see multiple wounds in animals from slugs that struck bone at odd angles- at the time finding odd things like misplaced teeth embedded in deer muscle tissue or grotesquely formed atypical antlers were more interesing. On reflection, perhaps I should have saved the magic slug and sold it on Ebay to someone who could better appreciate its mystical properties.

Certainly the Warren Commission was scared to death that evidence pointing to Cuba or the Soviet Union would come out. It seems unlikely that Coober ran Oswald though, he was such a goof. For one thing, wouldn't they have been able to provide him with a better weapon than a Carcano? And would they have him expose himself by attempting to kill General Walker? Certainly it was no long range plan since there was no way they could have known Kennedy was coming to Dallas. It's possible that Cuban agents or agents of influence might have encouraged him at some point, but just the word of this so-called spy isn't very credible.

Case Closed by Gerald Posner remains the best book on the Kennedy assassination.

I agree with this view. Oswald could not hit water if he fell out of a boat.

I have also read Caro's LBJ biography set and I agree with you 100%. Just wait until Caro's 4th and final volume comes out that reveals the entire assasination plot.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but if you want to feel your skin crawl (and your stomach turn) at how a slimy lawyer-type can lead a witness to a false, pre-conceived conclusion, read Arlen Specter's deposition interviews re the "magic Bullet" at Parkland Hospital.

If that doesn't shake your confidence in the honesty of the government's investigation, then I don't know what will...

Find a copy of Operation Solo. Morris Childs, the VP of the American Communist Party, was perhaps the deepest cover spy we had against the USSR. He was in Moscow right after the assassination visiting the leaders of the USSR. He found them doing just what we do, spinning all sorts of theories as to who killed JFK. If Castro was involved he wasn't telling his Soviet comrades.

I can't believe many here fall so hard for this. Damn, I've been hearing all this for over 40 years now.

Stronger case could be made for Cuban exiles than Castro if one leans to the conspiracy.

I don't anymore....though there are some unusual aspects to the case no doubt.
