This is all Drudge has for now.

It sounds like a really bad idea to me.

Why is this news? It was announced in a press briefing on the 30th of December:

On Thursday, January 5th, he will be meeting with the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, former Secretaries of State and former Secretaries of Defense in the Roosevelt Room. And that will be to discuss the war on terror and our challenges in Iraq and winning the war in Iraq

Big deal.

Will Gerald Ford's Secretary of Defense be there?

Hope he doesn't share anything confidential with them.

In inviting all living Secretaries of State and defense, President Bush demonstrates his bias against the respiration-impaired. A look at the list of Secretary of States shows what he'll be passing up.

Maybe dubbya thinks this is a way to squelch the criticism of the war.

But it also can come off as the man is out of ideas. And that's ridiculous with so much going right over there.

Again, another awkward political move that I can't see how this works in dubbya's favor

Unless he has some really, really good news, this is not a good start in 2006 for the President.

He'd better not use the word "victory" too many times during the conference. It might upset Madeline Half-bright.

Heck, they should have invited all of the living Attorneys General also.

That way Al Haig, Ed Meese, Shultzie, James Baker, Rummy, and Cheney could sit around and bust on Ramsey Clark the whole time.... :-)

It sounds like a really bad idea to me.

I'm a blackjack player, but if I played poker,I wouldn't want to be at a table with this President.

Several thoughts...

- "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

- As other posters have noted, this might be the first groundwork for what we and the rest of the world will have to do to prevent a nuclear Iran.

- Some of those big egos, if they're properly stroked, could actually be useful to W. If this is a classified, eyes-only kind of meeting, that kind of ego stroking might just have benefits down the line. Especially if some of the classfied info is of the "oh, shi%, they're THAT far along?" variety.

- If it's just about Iraq, then I see little benefit in holding the meeting.

- Maybe W is going to share with the group some of that horrible nasty NSA-gathered intel on AQ.

- I dunno if this meeting is a good idea or not. Hopefully this is a continuation of the New Bush in another forum.

All the whining about “no WMD’s” in Iraq, and all the garbage that comes with it, represents one of our biggest obstacles to solving the Iran problem.

This meeting is likely a political preemptive strike to soften domestic opposition to U.S. military action against Iran.

Thank God for President Bush.
