Heck, they should have invited all of the living Attorneys General also.

That way Al Haig, Ed Meese, Shultzie, James Baker, Rummy, and Cheney could sit around and bust on Ramsey Clark the whole time.... :-)

Hopefully they would just beat the crap out of him, of course then he would go crying to a judge about being "tortured."

That is indeed what happened. It was a Carter disaster. After JFK, a genuine hawk who recognized the battle, our enemies sure like it when Dems are in charge of national security.

It sounds like a really bad idea to me.

I'm a blackjack player, but if I played poker,I wouldn't want to be at a table with this President.

Like I said, "Who could possibly give a flying eff what Robert MacNamara thinks? About anything?"

It takes real chutzpah for McNamara to critique anybody's conduct of a war. Lord, how I despise that man!

I would say "thanks for the post" but I'm working myself into a frothing rage...

Iran. That was my first thought. Bush doesn't need their help on Iraq.

"Most of the folks will be enemies of Bush I would presume, so why are they doing this?"

Theory: Because it nails their (Albright, Perry, et al) feet to the floor for the mid-terms. Rove calculates the flood-the-zone effect in the run for the microphones and the mass chatter afterwards will be too great for Madame Cankles and Chucky to steer in one single direction.

Someone like Albright will pop off for impeachment or "Bush is hiding Bin Laden," and the GOP will be able to point to that for the rest of the year as atypical DUmmie kook fringe stuff.

It's risky, but could be very productive.

This is Rove's way to hit back at those that say Bush is in a bubble and isn't getting outside advice. Other then that it doesn't mean much of anything.

I wouldn't make that bet, if it is about more than just Iraq. Any successful attempt to deal with Iran will carry a huge risk. This meeting may well be part of the groundwork needed to prepare for action that will impact us for many years to come.

I see no problems with this move by Bush. The Bush haters dont need a special meeting with him behind closed doors to spew lies about what he has ever said.

The MSM will report whatever they want to anyways. Bush can come out and give a presser on how "interesting" his meeting was and how everyone agrees with him. ha. ha.

I see rove behind this and also Karen Hughes....it is also a good way to pick up on the momentum of continuing the War on Terror a la Conservative style.

Mike, I can't claim "respiration impaired" as an original phrase.

Steve Forbes, during his primary campaign in 2000, inveighed against the inheritance tax (AKA death tax) by saying "no taxation without respiration." A good line, I thought -- but not good enough to make me vote for him.

Yeah, Iran worries me. I don't see any effective way to deal with them except to encourage the Israeli's to nuke them. An invasion is out of the question unless the purpose is to go in, strip the place bare, and get out before they have a chance to recover. Maybe Bush should discuss that at his meeting. Maybe someone will finally suggest to pull all the damn Humvees out of combat roles and replace them with M113A4 ACAV's and Bradleys.

You nailed it.

Bush will come accross as being open. However, he and his team will kick the opposistion's a$$es.

Picture this we have President Bush, Rice, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Shultz, Baker, and Kissinger. and they have Madeline Not-so-Bright.
