On first read this sounds like a good move.

" Had Carter done his job in 1978 and 1979, we probably wouldn't have to fight the global war on terror."

That is how I see Carter. If it wasn't for Clinton we wouldn't see the war against China that is looming in the horizon either.

"Most of the folks will be enemies of Bush I would presume, so why are they doing this?"

Maybe something's about to pop and he's gonna tell them to keep their traps shut or else.

"our enemies sure like it when Dems are in charge of national security."

that is why Iran gave Kerry money for his campaign and China gave to Clinton.

It has long been my belief that Carter's
-inability to anticipate the unrest in Iran,
-his betrayal of the Shah,
-his miserable failure in handling the hostage crisis,
-and his pathetic refusal to allow the Special Forces to
perform the rescue mission that they were more than
capable of successfully completing,
was the foundation for the Islamofascists ever bolder moves.

Had Carter done his job in 1978 and 1979, we probably
wouldn't have to fight the global war on terror.

IF George W had been president during Clintoon's terms, 9/11 would never had occurred, Bin Laden and his buddies would be worm poo, and our troops would not be in harm's way in Afghanistan and Iraq now.

Several thoughts...

- "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

- As other posters have noted, this might be the first groundwork for what we and the rest of the world will have to do to prevent a nuclear Iran.

- Some of those big egos, if they're properly stroked, could actually be useful to W. If this is a classified, eyes-only kind of meeting, that kind of ego stroking might just have benefits down the line. Especially if some of the classfied info is of the "oh, shi%, they're THAT far along?" variety.

- If it's just about Iraq, then I see little benefit in holding the meeting.

- Maybe W is going to share with the group some of that horrible nasty NSA-gathered intel on AQ.

- I dunno if this meeting is a good idea or not. Hopefully this is a continuation of the New Bush in another forum.

That is indeed what happened. It was a Carter disaster. After JFK, a genuine hawk who recognized the battle, our enemies sure like it when Dems are in charge of national security.

It was Kennedy who put Robert "The Walking Abortion" MacNamara in Defense. Vietnam was another consequence of Liberals who have no idea about the proper use of the military. It was Kennedy's half-measures and self doubt that was a major reason for the failure of the Bay of Pigs.

"Iran. That was my first thought. Bush doesn't need their help on Iraq."

Agree! Iraq requires no major decisions on the scale of Iran. Why would he not talk to them about his biggest problem, Iran, soon to require a major decision. When they leave, they can and will safely discuss Iraq with the media because Iraq is "over" from a major decision perspective. But, at least on a group level (all will remember and immediately make journal notes on what was said), they will be locked into positions on Iran which they cannot as easily change after the President makes a decision or takes action. For Bush it is a chance to get some advice. For the group it is put-up (and live with your opinion) or shut-up time.

Sorry Wolfstar you beat me to the punch with the non-breaking aspect of the story.

No problem. The more people who expose Drudge for the hysteric he frequently is, the better as far as I'm concerned.

"See this also from ThreatsWatch.org;"
I read Bill's piece earlier today. At least this goon was captured. One can only wonder how they are making him spill the beans as to who all his adherents where. He IMHO, really only repeats what UBL and Zarahiri has echoed all along.
Guess we shall see if his mesages where taking seriously by a large number of goons that read his tape. He sure has set them on a path that will do little damage over all. Notice how these guys make it sound like the are going to make a given western country literally cave in.
Meanwhile all the infrastructures he meantions to attack, in all the target countries are most probably being super beefed up with all forms of security that would prevent goons from doing much of anything. It is not exactly easy to walk into say an oil refinery complex with a backpack of exposives. And one does not just hop in a boat and take photos of a bridge without being spotted. When the boat arrives back at shore, and turns out to be some camelhumpers with a supposed visa, surely they are invited down to the local police station.
Where I would admit more concern, is where planned attacks on malls containing many people, that could end up being shot up. Soft targets, such as schools, churches. But these things are not going to bring down any country. And would if anything enrage the citizentry to go after anyone who appears to be Arab or Asiatic. And could help convince law abiding Muslims that are here with families, etc., to start pointing out any groups that are doing the bad stuff.
Why would they jeopardize themselves if push comes to shove.
Surely most of the EU are waking up by now. They see what is going on. And I am not so sure they are going to let a bunch of rug heads take their cities and towns over, as things progress.

All the whining about “no WMD’s” in Iraq, and all the garbage that comes with it, represents one of our biggest obstacles to solving the Iran problem.

This meeting is likely a political preemptive strike to soften domestic opposition to U.S. military action against Iran.

Thank God for President Bush.

I agree and suspect this meeting is 100% about IRAN.

"The Israelis have given us a deadline of March 31st to have substantial ground forces in Iran or else they are nuking Tehran, Mashad, Isfahan, and Tabriz. What do y'all think we should do? Talk it over with Dick, I'm going to hit the treadmill for an hour. I'll be back for a briefing before my 8pm bedtime.

Nice hat, Madeline."

Will it? Melvin R. Laird, Casper Weinberger, Don Rumsfeld will be there.
