We're popping fireworks saturday and barbequing at my grandmother's house Sunday. Back to the grind Tuesday.
Gonna try to do everything better this year. Mostly though we will try to be thankful for all we have including a new grandson. 4 mos old now. Couldn't get any better in 2005 than that. Happy New Year everyone. Pork Roast, Sauerkraut, Mashed Potatoes and Applesauce on the First. :)

Good evening, paulat. I was just thinking of getting ready to turn in, read a bit. I'm making a white cheddar cheese tart with rhubarb chutney for tomorrow. If it's any good, I'll share it. It's supposed to be cranberry chutney, but I could not find a cranberry anywhere. The year felt something like a roller coaster ride but I think we came out on top.
Hey, We are not planning anything special this weekend since we were out of town last weekend. Hubby is not feeling well with that neck disc problem and I have a cold. I do think he is going to play golf tomorrow if he feels like it. Happy New Year everyone.
I have a feeling you aren't alone with that resolution, here on FR...LOL
My poupouri recipe is quite simple: buy pickling spices from the grocery store, combine them with twigs from the Christmas tree you are throwing out, and boil all in a pot on the stove.. Bring all to a boil, and let it simmer.
Eating tangerines, oranges? Put the skins in the simmering pot as well.
The aroma is heavenly. Trust me.
I hope you don't live in Texas if you are going to pop fireworks!
So is that of a freshly opened Yuengling Lager, and you don't have to peel or boil the damned thing to get it.
I'm givig you my recipe for Rum Cake, so you can have your cake and get drunk too!
Really, it is very good and a family favorite, especially over the holidays.
Rum Cake
1 18.5-oz. box yellow cake mix
1 3.75-oz. vanilla pudding mix
4 eggs
1/2 c. cold water
1/2 c. oil
1/2 c. rum
Mix all cake ingredients togetherwell, using the high speed on your mixer. Bake in bundt or tube pan that has been prepared at 325 for one hour. Let cool slightly. Prepare the glaze when the cake comes out of the oven.
Glaze:
1/4 lb. butter
1/4 c. water
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. rum
Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in water and sugar. Boil 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; add rum and stir well.
Poke holes in cake with carving fork. Drizzle glaze over cake allowing cake to absorb all of it. Remove from pan while still warm.
Congratulations on your grandson...my youngest granddaughter will be 1 on Jan. 19th...
Your New Year's feast sounds delicious!
And, on January 1 I will quit smoking. Prayers and encouragement on this would be appreciated.
New Year's Day Menu
Black-eyed peas
Buttermilk Corn Bread
Ham
Green Onions
Pan fried potatoes and onion
Turnip greens
We'll be staying close to home in order to keep an eye out for any fireworks being set off in the area. Normally we don't pay them any heed but as dry as it is this year it wouldn't take but a spark to destroy a large number of homes.
Are you getting a divorce???
