I'll be at my night job, which just happens to be at my church, where they will be having 9pm to midnight service. It takes about 2 hours to get everyone to leave after that, so it will be a busy night.
Well.... losing the twenty pounds will entail exercise. Three years ago I ran a marathon, now I have joined NANR (the National Association of Non-Runners)!
That's one of our favorite meals!
When my husband and I first met, he turned his nose up at kraut. I told him he had never had mine. I made it for him the day before we went to pick up our wedding rings. That was 17 years ago - now he asks for it every few weeks. How do you make yours?
Hope the weather holds for you! Looks like the rain should hold off until after noon or so.
I lowered my cholestrol by 100 but, I am having to take 2 cholestrol medicines to do it...
I can be on a no-fat, no-cholestrol diet...and exersize 30 minutes a day...and it doesn't even touch my cholestrol...
My father died from hardening of the arteries very young..so, my doctor said I would NEED medication for life.
Wow! Sounds nice and tangy...and I can see that you have to serve it COLD!!!
Yum...crunchy!
LOL---NANR....that is one group I would sign up with in a minute.
It isnt new years without pork and kraut.
I do kiebsa and kraut with grannysmith apples
Hey Warriormom, how do you make your sourkraut? It usually takes days to make it the old fashioned way. I've never made it, because the traditional way takes three weeks.
black-eyed peas, cornbread for my 50th year. yum.
Their motto: Running is for the birds!
I usually double the recipe and use two 8-9 inch seasoned iron skillets I inherited from my Mom. I also like to cut out the inside of the cornbread in order to make a bowl for my blackeyed peas so I put my skillets (with a light coating of oil) in the oven while it preheats. My crust gets nice and crisp and stands up to the peas.
This is for a single skillet, you can also use muffin pans but I prefer the cast iron.
1 c. white or yellow cornmeal
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg beaten
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. salt
fresh ground black pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix dry ingredients together; add buttermilk and beaten egg and mix well. Mix just until there are no lumps and do not overmix. Pour into hot skillet, into the oven and check after 15 minutes. With my oven I usually cook it for 18-20 minutes.
Seriously, I quit eating lunch and eat fruit instead. An apple at 8:00 and 12:00, a tangerine/orange/banana (either/or) at 10:00am and 3:00pm. Then, I eat a light dinner, no more than 500 calories, which is really pretty easy to fit in. Just watch the calories, fat, and carbs.
The first two weeks I exercised 4 times a day for 20 minutes each session--bicycling 3.5 miles at 6:00am, 6:00pm, and 10:00pm, and walking a local nature trail during my lunch hour. During that first two weeks , I lost 17 pounds. With the cold weather coming on, I've cut back to just the walking, but I'll pick back up cycling in the spring.
One more secret, though I don't know how much of an impact it's had--Green Tea diet formula tablets-- the all-natural kind. They really seemed to help curb my appetite and coupled with the exercise, really seemed to boost my metabolism.
Wow, I sure wish you the best in the that struggle. Keep enjoying life as much as possible (I shouldn't talk on that one - I NEED to enjoy life much more - way too lonely...).
GREAT LIST!
how about squishing McCain's head?
Yummy in the tummy!! Thanks very much Sally for the recipe. Right now, I intend to have black-eyed peas with port neck bones or ham, buttermilk cornbread and mixed greens.I'm debating about baking some yams. Thanks again.
America must be more on the ball.
oops! "port" = pork.
Pork Roast, Sauerkraut, Mashed Potatoes and Applesauce on the First. :)
Yum!! Can we come to YOUR house for supper?
I'm sure he's really excited about the opportunity but I hope for y'all's sake he doesn't get to go up. Not that I want him to miss the opportunity, I just don't want to see any more fires.
My son probably wouldn't have called me either if he'd been interviewed even though I'd have been ready to record the interview for posterity.
