NCAA says tribe's OK won't save generic "Indian" mascot at ULM(political correctness gone wild)

A Louisiana tribe's blessing won't save the University of Louisiana-Monroe's Indian mascot from the NCAA's displeasure, so a new committee will study the mascot's future.
ULM was one of 18 schools which the NCAA has ordered to stop using Indian mascots, images and logos in February 2006. The league allowed Florida State to remain the Seminoles because the tribe approved.
But NCAA official Bernard Franklin has told ULM that "the use of a generic Native American reference like Indians or Braves cannot be mitigated by the concurrence of any Native America Tribe," university President James Cofer wrote alumni and other supporters.
Cofer said ULM asked Louisiana's three federally recognized tribes - the Tunica-Biloxi, the Chitimacha and the Coushatta - to support the university's current mascot. Only the Coushattas did so.
Franklin said that if the university's mascot was the Coushattas, the tribe's support probably would be enough to keep it. However, he wrote, "it does not suffice as an endorsement of the use of the generic term Indian."

I'll admit I haven't followed it closely, but I am just baffled as to how this PC nonsense insinuated itself into the world of sports. Who or what exactly is responsible for it?

Let's see; Vikings, Cowboys, Irish, Orange Men (this is a reference to Englishmen, not Indiginous Americans), Buccaneers, Raiders, Patriots, and many other 'white' mascots are not offensive. Why not?
What the PC commisars don't see is that they are holding white mascots to be superior to minority mascots, ie: Whites can take it and red men can't. It is an offshoot of a racial superiority attitude.

Also, we have a complaint from lions in Africa who feel that they are being defamed by association the football team in Detroit.

My question is why can't these teams tell the NCAA to pound sand and go form its own associations???

With graduation rates currently at 100%, steroid use eliminated and all other college athletics issues solved, I'm glad to see the NCAA is finally getting to some important stuff...

Yes, but ironically, the lions are mostly being slain mostly by players of African origin. You can leave Africa, but you can't escape your fate.

Why? The NCAA owns the basketball tournament contract. In fact, they just bought out their only competition, the NIT. They're the only game in town, literally, unless you want to go to the NAIA and play with the other tiny small schools. That's why. Follow the money, just like everywhere else.

I know. They change their name to the PC Weasels and have Bernard Franklin as their mascot.

Ok, so then why can't these schools form their own tournaments? If the NCAA did not have any schools in its orb then what use would they be? These other schools would be competing same as usual but without the NCAA ... ya think?

Exactly...doesn't the NCAA have other matters to address? So what if the student never gradutes, at least he/she played for a politically correct mascot named school.

I think the NCAA is still boycotting South Carolina because of the Confederat flag flying , but as far as I know nobody has been seriously affected by it. In fact I think they hold it as a badge of courage. The NCAA gets away with this crap because the majority is afraid of a minority. But one thing is right , Its all about the money.

"Chief Two Eagles," asked one official, "You have observed the white man for
90 years. You've seen his wars and his material wealth. You've seen his
progress, and the damage he's done."
The chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued, "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where
did the white man go wrong?"
The chief stared at the government officials for over a minute and then calm
ly replied, "When white man found the land, Indians were running it. No
taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, women did all the work, medicine
man free, Indian man spent all day hunting and fishing, all night having sex."
Then the chief leaned back and smiled, "Only white man dumb enough to think
he could improve system like that."

If they keep ticking everybody off, it may happen someday. They do seem to have lost track of their purpose. I guess money and too much power tends to corrupt itself.
