Apologies if this is cross posted on the wrong board...
While surfing around yesterday, I saw this post... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1547014/posts?page=1,50
I got to thinking, which was a big mistake cause it started me crying. You see, I've lost more than 7 family members to Cancer...the most recent was my sweet Niece. She was only 31 and left behind 2 awesome little boys, and devastated my Sister, as well.
I have friends that have lost loved ones too, and some that are still living in fear of the day that the test comes back with bad old news...again.
Smile is a friend of mine. She is still living that nightmare with her son, Dylan. Here is a before pic of Dylan. I cropped out most of his frail little body, what body he had left...
Dylan has benefited from research, and was given treatment that wasn't available in the beginning of his 6 year ordeal. Treatment that was the direct result of on going community based research.
YOU, and EVERYBODY READING THIS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
The post I saw put it all in perspective for me, I can make a difference, I can do something to to help, to make sure I lose no more Nieces or family, that YOUR family can hopefully lead a longer fuller, healthier life.
THANK YOU Texas_Booster for opening my eyes!
Today, Dylan leads a fairly normal life, except for his every 6 month visits to the clinic for the feared testing.
But, in between those visits, THIS is how Dylan looks today...
Please, join the FREEREPUBLIC.COM team and donate your spare cpu time to help fight, not just, Cancer, but other terrible afflictions also.
Go and read the post, and then join up. After all, if the DU crowd can do it, so can you!

I also have a 30 year old Niece fighting Melanoma stage 4, They found it within a month of her baby being born. She also has a 2 year old. You never think it will hit the young ones and then it does and breaks your heart. God Bless all of those fighting the good fight!
Excellent post!
c'mon people, sign up and donate your computer's unused capacity for worthwhile research.
Good L-rd. What a contrast. G-d's Eternal Blessings to this lucky young boy!
Thanks for your kind words. I spoke to Smile (his Mommy) this weekend. They had an interim checkup last week. He is still in remission, but does feel some fatigue. They put Dylan on a new medicine. I had to ask her if the Dr. gave her an history on the med. She said he just told her that it was fairly new in the last year.
A result of these kinds of projects maybe?
Won't you help the cause with a few spare cpu cycles? It's easy, painless, costs nothing, and you get a big reward. A nice warm fuzzy!!!
