Liberals, Conservatives, Moderates, it's a special time, can we find a little peace?
I have been wanting to do this for quite some time. Somewhere deep inside I believe that there can be a bit of common ground between the Left side of the political spectrum, and the Right. Why would we want this, assuming of course that there is someone other than me that would like to see that happen. I believe that there are many things about our wonderful nation that we share that could serve as a starting point to start a healing between us.
I think we should try it, if only for the sacrifice so many have made to afford us this opportunity. If I am right, I'll bet there are some things, more than we imagine, that we have in common, and given a real chance we may find them..
If we can at least agree that we as a nation, have been slowly dividing culturally for quite some time. Perhaps we can even go a bit further, I think our society is sick, and it can use threatening to become truly polarized, to the point of permanent harm to the very fabric of our being..
Help me make a list of those things that make us a country that is united..
Please I am serious, list anything that you can, that you believe you agree would be a compromise on your part for the good of our nation..
Moderator, please give us a bit of latitude, and maybe we can start a dialogue that will benefit all.. Merry ()
I'll start..
1) As much as it would burn my butt, I believe I could live with Gay Marriage if the Gay community could stop the Gay agenda, infiltration into our public schools, and private businesses.. You know what I mean.. I.E.: School, Diversity training, Gay-Straight, and tolerance BS.. and Boy Scouts, Salivation Army.. etc., I don't want to count the number of right wing conservatives in the offices of the ACLU. You don't want the 10 commandants being taught or a class on religious freedom, and creation, I say we both back down, and teach our own kids..2) I don't like being told that I can't have religious symbols in the marketplace, but can we agree that any private business should be able to display any religious display it wishes without litigious reprisals? If the anyone in the public hates it, they could avoid that business as they wish..
3) I could live with abortion in cases of forcible rape, and the life of the mother or the baby, and even financial crises.. I am an adoptive parent, and I really can't think of a way to justify giving birth to every baby without a plan to care for it with love and security until maturity..
4) I believe there are still reminisces of sick racial prejudice in pockets of our society but I also believe affirmative action is insidious and cruel in main. I would agree to the harshest of penalty if anyone is caught withholding a job or position simply because of a persons race.. But I must say that I have no idea how to prove a case.. I have seen it happen on both sides and I wanted to scream, perhaps I will the next time, and maybe that is a start..

Any progress is better than not even trying.. Can't you think of one single thing that you would be willing to budge an inch for the benifit of the future.. It can be a trade off.. are you willing to trade something, anything that isn't as important as the way we are heading?

We grown ups have to keep a leash on those who have yet to grow up. We use laws to accomplish this task.
What would you think if I told you that we are a lot closer than we are lead to believe on several subjects that are bedrock principles of ours.. such as Gun Control, Abortion, and the radical Gay agenda.. Many Democrats are a lot closer to us than their own party..
I'd like to see some kind of rapprochement between atheistic science and theistic science in the schools. We are a country that espouses faiths of all kinds, and protects the freedoms of those who have no religious inclination of any kind. As such, I am happy to allow atheistic science a say in my kids classroom if only they would also allow that say to be countered by the reasonable assumption that God is just as natural as the universe He created.
In addition, I am happy to concede that atheists and atheistic science have many good things to contribute to society at large and science in particular. They may even make more practical policies in many fields, not the least of which is the conservative agenda. This from a convinced young earth creationist and solid pro-life advocate WRT to unborn children.

Yes, their citizenship and their residence in this country. That would be sufficient.
I would feed them 6.. yeah, 6 would be plenty.. How do you justify saying this to me my dear FRiend when all I want is to start a reasonable conversation about our future..
I doubt that there are more than a few on this board that are fighting with me that not too long ago were Democrats.. I am saying that there are millions more on the cusp that are waiting for someone to stop pulling so they could get a rest and let go of the cause long enough to think about it!
Fight an agenda rather than recognize the rights of infdividuals.

Now for your ignorant comments. Some laws used to allow women and blacks as property. So yes, the law is the law. So what? A change is proposed to allow for adult taxpaying citizens to have equal access, pursue liberty and happeness. I don't see why you have a problem with that. Every year there are laws listed that are on the books and obsolete or ridiculous.
Are you in favor of people marrying rocks? If you don't know the difference between marrying an adult and marrying animals or five year olds, perhaps you should stay inside.

Some things can be compromised, others, like the destruction of the fabric of our country, that made her great, nothin' doing!
Liberals are no longer just getting their way in ushering in their socialistic "utopia" in this country. Of course, in view of that, they start thinking compromise. Their only alternative is defeat.
May their defeat be utter.
Not give up.. moderate, and expect something in return.. I am not a fool, I can tell you that most of my successes can from a position of inflexibility on the part of my contemporaries.. It isn't compromise, it's a strategy.. You sometime had to give to get.. Didn't you mama teach you that.. :)

My friend I am simply pointing out that on some things we cannot compromise. Especially when those that we chose to compromise with cannot be trusted.
