US monitored Muslim sites for radiation: report

U.S. officials have secretly monitored radiation levels at Muslim sites, including mosques and private homes, since September 11, 2001 as part of a top secret program searching for nuclear bombs, U.S. News and World Report said on Friday.

The news magazine said in its online edition that the far-reaching program covered more than a hundred sites in the Washington, D.C., area and at least five other cities.

"In numerous cases, the monitoring required investigators to go on to the property under surveillance, although no search warrants or court orders were ever obtained, according to those with knowledge of the program," the magazine said.

The report comes a week after revelations that the Bush administration had authorized eavesdropping on people in the United States. U.S. President George W. Bush has defended that covert program and vowed to continue the practice, saying it was vital to protect the country.

Senior U.S. officials, including FBI Director Robert Mueller, have repeatedly said Islamic militants appeared intent on acquiring weapons of mass destruction for an attack against the United States.

Mueller said in February he was "very concerned with the growing body of sensitive reporting that continues to show al Qaeda's clear intention to obtain and ultimately use some form of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-energy explosives material in its attacks against America."

An FBI spokesman declined to confirm or deny the U.S. News and World Report article and said, "We can't talk about a classified program."

Both the leakers and the media publishing the leaks, knowingly broke US laws, I think revealing top secret information is a felony. They should all be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

You can always just post a short comment, observation, don't have to wait until you have a flash of brilliance. :)

It seems that while President Bush was using the "Religion of Peace" references, he was taking the actions necessary to fight the war. Well, actually while many folks around here complained about the President's speeches, he was doing his job in a manner fitting with presidential decorum as opposed to the trumpeting of every move a la President B.J. Clinton.

Yes, I've been thinking the same thing.

Why can't we just make people register their nuclear devices? If it can work with guns.....

"They should have been monitoring an equal number of Lutheran sites."

Methodists maybe; the way that they are going.

This is obviously another well coordinated onslaught from the depraved 'Rats in and out of government. All the recent leaks are meant to try to create some "perfect storm" against the Bush administration. It should instead create a perfect storm against the MSM and the 'Rat charlatans who are breaking the law with these leaks..... time for real Americans to rise up and demand accountability for the demagogues who are trying to destroy the war on terror instead of concentrating upon destroying the terrorists, as all REAL Americans want to do.

You do have the right to own anything you can make. HOWEVER, the rest of us have granted the government the power to restrict it for the safety of us all.

also worth remembering......it was only a month or so after 911 before Daschle and Gephart both went back to bashing Bush as regularly, shamelessly and falsely as they had been before 911......

"But it has to investigated and prosecuted first...the ball is being dropped here!"

Exactly. I don't know why didn't they start an investigation immediately. There is no question that a crime has been committed. Revealing top secret information IS a crime.

the dems will eventually turn this into "They didn't even want to investigate the leaks."

Good point. I wouldn't put it past them.

These people better pray that a nuke doesn't go off after leaking this stuff.

Same with the Dims.

As they march on with crippling our ability to protect ourselves when something does happen as a result they are going to take the blame head on. What jerks.

MSM will continue until someone has to pay the price for treason.

Or until the mushroom cloud appears on US soil. At that point, the first reaction of Americans should be to begin dynamiting the MSM's transmitters.
