PHOENIX (AP) -- An Arizona bookstore owner charged in the firebombing of a government wildlife lab in Washington committed suicide in his jail cell Thursday, officials said.
William C. Rodgers, 40, of Prescott, Ariz., suffocated after placing a plastic bag over his head while in a one-person cell in Flagstaff, the Coconino County medical examiner said.
Rodgers was one of six people arrested earlier this month in connection with ecoterror attacks in Oregon and Washington in recent years.
He was accused of setting fire to the Agriculture Department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services facility in Olympia, Wash., in 1998.
Federal court documents last week said Rodgers had been linked to a meeting of Earth Liberation Front members in western Colorado where the firebombing of a Colorado ski resort, one of the costliest ecoterror crimes in the U.S., was planned.

Leaving plastic lying around like that isn't ecofriendly, but I guess we'll give him a pass on his guilty plea.
Reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw once:
"Save the Planet, Kill Yourself"
Sounds to me like the guy offed himself to protect his terror cell. This is not exactly a foreign tactic to these people, and it is part of why we only have bits and pieces on them.
He is now a GOOD eco-terrorist.
I love great news just in time for the holidays. I suppose that he was worried that Santa would be leaving him an Escalante sized heap of coal in his stocking this year and wanted to avoid the clean-up. Glad to see he chose the environmentally responsible plastic bag to do himself with, but he loses points for leaving behind a potentially hazardous heap of organic matter for others to clean up.
I'm shocked the Darwin Awards have not come up yet.
That was probably it! The man dreamed of a pile of coal and promptly snapped, coming to the realization that Santa Claus was actually a shill for the mining industry and looked too much like Dick Cheney for comfort!
Sounds like waterboarding.
Self-waterboarding.
I had much the same thought (but who can really know for certain what motivates such an act, especially if no note was left behind)... It likely would not have been due to remorse at his eco-terror activities, because the typical terrorist is proud of his acts, and not regretful or ashamed of them. Rather, there might have been the motive of protecting the 'network', possibly coupled with a desire to go out as a 'martyr' to the cause...
His relatives and loved ones, if any, are going to have a rotten Christmas, with this suicide hanging over them. Selfish, inconsiderate, mentally-ill jerk.
That was my thought, too. Maybe they were trained to do this if caught, so as to not reveal anything about the other terrorists.
Good for him!
He saved the State some money and made the world a better place.
Now if the rest of the sobs would only follow his example.
I hope he recycled that bag - you know, environment and all..
Proof positive that these people are sick demented twisted depaved and horribly depressed people. Liberalism is a mental disorder that kills.
Ihope they beat every ounce of information possible out of him before he made the earth a better place to live.
Rodgers = worm food.
biological unit assume's room temp via plastic bag. eco-loser deprived himself from becoming bubba's b!tch.
....In the end the oil companies plastic killed him.....
He was dedicated to his cause to the very end.
(if he was actually the one to place the bag over his own head)
I love a happy ending. Merry Christmas PETA, ELF, ALF.
