Dow's glide to 11,000 looks smooth (MORE BAD NEWS FOR LIBS)
Reuters via Yahoo News ^ | December 17, 2005 | Anna Driver

Investors will sort through data on housing, durable goods and inflation plus earnings from companies like FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX - news) and Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MWD - news) next week, but none are expected to pack enough punch to undo the year's gains and derail Dow's push toward 11,000.

And as usual, the market will keep a close watch on the price of crude oil, which closed solidly below $60 a barrel on Friday, easing concerns that high energy costs will pinch corporate and household budgets.

"I think between now and the end of the year, the market is going to have a mild upward bias," said Stanley Nabi, vice chairman at Silvercrest Asset Management Group. "There is nothing that will come out on the economic front next week that will redirect the market."

Factors that have pushed stocks up in recent weeks include data showing the economy is on solid footing as well as the Federal Reserve signaling that its interest-rate-raising cycle was nearing an end.

"I think the market will continue to rally as the economic data continues to improve," said Steve Neimeth, portfolio manager for AIG SunAmerica Asset Management.

"The Consumer Price Index came in 'in line' with expectations, which calmed investors," Neimeth added. "And the Fed commented that they're not particularly concerned about inflation and that they don't seem to be any more aggressive in raising rates."

So far this year, the Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI - news) is up 0.86 percent, the Standard and Poor's 500 index (^SPX - news) is up 4.57 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite Index (^IXIC - news) is up 3.54 percent.

The liberal complaint is that the American economy is currently making capitalists wealthy and illegal aliens and foreign workers better off at the expense of the American middle and working classes...and that this is a result of deliberate policy choices of the Administration.

When you start off a sentence with the phrase 'the liberal complaint', I stop reading.

I also use this method for sentences that begin with the phrase 'According to the NY Times' or According to the Polls'.

"The liberal complaint is that the American economy is currently making capitalists wealthy and illegal aliens and foreign workers better off at the expense of the American middle and working classes"

Please name even one liberal who has tried to say what you have posted here. The liberals are PRO illegal immigration, and don't give a rats behind about the middle class.....never have, and never will. The problem we have are the left wingers and CINO's who like the fact that Bush is flooding the country with illegals.

So, the liberals are against everyone's standard of living going up? It's NOT a zero-sum equation...everyone benefits from a stronger economy, but you Dims don't get it and never will.

Liberal policies will make the illegal and foreign problem worse, no thanks. Gotta agree that Bush is not helping much there either, but we Minutemen will continue to push him. As for the rest:

Unemployment: Lowest level in recent history, lowest among developed nations in the world. Stock market strong (most of the middle and 'working' classes have their savings here too), wages up, consumer confidence high, what's not to like?

When you add "(MORE BAD NEWS FOR LIBS)" to a title you should expect a response. If you don't want to read it then I have to wonder about your committment to free speech and rational analysis.

Dow's glide to 11,000 looks smooth

I don't hold myself out as a market or economic expert, but this kind of headline, and the thinking behind it, makes no sense to me. If there were a strong consensus that the market is going to 11,000, why isn't it there now? To illustrate: let's assume you sell corn. The current price is $10. If you were convinced that next week it would go to $11, why would you sell it now at $10?

There is a balance of sellers and buyers in any market. If the market is under 11,000, it's because there are people willing to sell it at that price now. They are obviously unconvinced it is going to 11,000 any time soon.

The liberals are PRO illegal immigration...

True.

That's a problem for them on all issues because Political Correctness is crap. They attempt to solve it with redistribution schemes, most of which are also crap.

But none of that detracts from the truth of their claim...and they are hardly the only group that's supports illegal immigration. This Administration has had to be dragged kicking and protesting to all attempts to limit or stop it.

Tell that to those who've lost their jobs to outsourcing.

Tell that to those who've lost their jobs to outsourcing.

That's their own doing, for having skills that can easily be replaced. And, no one (other than Howard Dean and Co.) is stopping them from making lemonade out of that batch of lemons.

But, in your view, the government MUST do something about it, right? No room for self-initiative...

"This Administration has had to be dragged kicking and protesting to all attempts to limit or stop it."

And they still will try anything to avoid stopping the invasion. Just watch what happens to the "tough" new immigration bill.

First of all, when your 'brilliant' posts and responses make it to the radio airwaves of prominent talk show hosts, you get back to me.

Second, Millions of people invest in the market.

We are not the little monopoly guy grabbing our monocle as we laugh at poor peasants who struggle to beat back illegals.

Only someone with dementia would respond to Dow 11,000 with the contempt you did.

I take great pride at American success.

I do not detract from it with arguments from liberals who need people to be poor and dependent in order to keep voting for them.

A slavery to ignorance, stupidity and self-inflicted poverty can not be excused away according to 'the liberal complaint'.

I haven't said what you view was, have I? But you're right, the government must do something. That's why we have a government...or haven't you noticed. If fact, it ALWAYS acts...in support of one ideology or another, one interest group or another, one faction or another.
