Reveal the truth, Frist and Hastert (The Clintons Could be Nailed; the GOP Gives Them a Pass)
Jewish World Review ^ | December 9, 2005 | Tony Snow

Posted on 12/14/2005 10:43:56 AM PST by MikeA

"No wonder they call us the Stupid Party," said a disgusted Republican operative in Washington. "You've got to wonder what these guys were thinking." At issue was the publication of a report by David Barrett, an independent counsel who has spent the better part of a decade looking into some of the most hair-raising allegations of presidential malfeasance in American history. Like most independent counsels, Barrett didn't set out on such a mission. He was assigned the duty of looking into whether former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros committed tax fraud in trying to cover up payments to a former mistress. Yet, as published reports have indicated, he soon discovered that he was onto something much bigger. He found unsettling evidence that Justice Department officials were actively interfering with the probe and even conducting surveillance of Barrett and his office. Worse, there were indications that Team Clinton was using key players at the IRS and Justice to harass, frighten and threaten people who somehow got in the former president's way. The pattern was set early on, when the White House sicced the FBI on Billy Dale, who had served as the director of the White House Travel Office since the days of John F. Kennedy. They mounted a baseless probe of Dale's finances, while chasing after his daughter, his sister and others. Dale was guilty of holding a job coveted by presidential pal Harry Thomasson. But rather than simply firing Dale, the Clinton White House chose to destroy him.

RE: "Will never see the light of day."

Likely you're correct again...

...but, in my view, just having the (short-memory) public 'reminded' of these things from time to time is beneficial.

...So God Bless Tony Snow.

Dang! ...I keep forgetting to change this to 'Logic 101' ...LOL

Follow the money. There is a deal here if we can smoke it out. It may not involve cash, but I guarantee there is a quid pro quo.

Not so much protecting each other, as fear of an armageddon of dirt that would take down too many on our side. Mutually-Assured-Destruction strategy of the Clintonites.

Something stinks, and the only way to get at the truth is to release the full report. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who fought a lonely battle to ensure the document's publication, is furious. So is House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wisc.

Go, Jim! (Although he's not my critter and tammy b with the alternative lifestyle had me jerrymandered [or GERI-PERSONED, in her case] out of his district and into hers, I'm not bitter or anything)

the political class protects each other

Exactly. The one hundred rich @$$holes in the Senate wouldn't want to have to look each other in the eye in the cloak room after having outed someone's criminal malfeasance. Mark Twain was right. America has no native criminal class - except for the Congress, of course.

Democrats lie to get DeLay in court. Republicans have the truth on the Clintons and refuse to let it out. Do they deserve to be re-elected to lead this kind of cover-up? I say let Tom DeLay make the decision. Pres. Bush is too much like his father. He prefers to paper over everything and pretend that the Democrats will respond to his wimpy "new tone." He is a fool if he believes the Democrats would do the same for him, after they've called him a liar to his face. The man has a wizened sense of honor, not an admirable trait in a leader, but that doesn't mean that the Republican sheep in the Congress and Senate have to follow him down the road to political oblivion.
