Is the Pentagon spying on Americans? Secret database obtained by NBC News tracks ‘suspicious’ domestic groups.

WASHINGTON - A year ago, at a Quaker Meeting House in Lake Worth, Fla., a small group of activists met to plan a protest of military recruiting at local high schools. What they didn't know was that their meeting had come to the attention of the U.S. military.

A secret 400-page Defense Department document obtained by NBC News lists the Lake Worth meeting as a “threat” and one of more than 1,500 “suspicious incidents” across the country over a recent 10-month period.

Look at the reg and look at what the groups say are their objectives. It IS subversion. It is intended to interfere with the military.

I have attended the Hollywood protests. I can vouch for the military's need to conduct surveylance on the participants. Quite frankly, I'm very pleased to hear that at least one government agency actually gives a damn, and is checking out some of these fringe anarchists.

Why shouldn't the U.S. government check out groups that support our enemies? Is our government supposed to allow these folks to network with the worlds leading terrorists, making plans that would harm U.S. citizens?

BTW, someone ask NBC if they would have been happy to have someone checking out Timothy McVeigh two months before he detonated a bomb in front of the Murah Building.

While you're at it, ask them if they'd have been bothered to have the military surveiling the 09/11 terrorists before they put their plan into action.

Oh it's real sensational to frame the military as the bad guy, but why is NBC so cozy with those in need of watching?

Did NBC outbid someone for the rights to terrorist coverage in the U.S.?

What NBC doesn't have the class or brains to acknowledge, is that we do have subversives here in this nation who are networking to defeat the U.S. Hell, our own Senators and Congressmen do the same thing.

Go ahead. Keep an eye on them. I sure wish someone would.

Timothy McVeigh said that he was an admirer of Rush Limbaugh .. so does that make Rush a supporter of terrorism? Much of the PA was written by the Clinton admin.. a watered-down version of it was passed as an anti-terrorism law in 1996. I'm not an admirer of Feingold, but I think everyone should demand that their reps take a closer look at some of the provisions and maybe tell them not to be so eager to hand over our civil liberties to the government. Times change, and a different admin. will be in power one day - and people may regret handing the executive branch dictatorial authority.

You need to get a grip. The groups under watch are very pro Palestinian, very pro South American subversive (Marxist) radicals, very pro Philipenes insurgents... you name it these folks back it if it's anti-U.S. or it's allies.

They are very sympathetic to the idea that the U.S. is the problem in Iraq. That should tell you what you need to know.

More likely, NBC chose the most ridiculous example they could dig up in order to tarnish the whole effort. On the other hand, what it tells me is that if they have the resources to keep tabs on a group of Quakers, I think the other, more high-value targets would not be ignored.

The military doesn't act on its own, it's under the command of the President. The President does have to answer to the people via their reps - and people protesting, whether you like it or not, is their right under the Constitution - what the POTUS takes an oath to uphold and defend.

That's the way it is in a democratic republic. The military is subordinate to the government, not the other way around.

As I said, the government has NO right to harass these people or screw with their lives in any way as long as they do nothing illegal. The government has no right to harass or intimidate these people, incarcerate them, conveniently decide to audit their taxes every year for the next five years....none of that. They have every right to keep tabs on them if they have reason to believe they can become a threat.

I have a huge problem with the government holding US citizens in incarceration without affording them their legal rights. But, that's not what this article is about. The article is about the government monitoring anything they deem as a threat or a potential threat or something that could later turn into a potential threat. I seriously doubt this is a new thing.

Hitlery would probably feel free to cart you away in the middle of the night if you said the wrong thing....not just keep tabs on you to make sure you're not planning on blowing something up or something (which is probably what they're doing now).
