Hours after California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denied clemency Monday for convicted killer Stanley Tookie Williams, lawyers for the Crips street gang co-founder filed a last-ditch appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court for a stay of execution.
Unless the Supreme Court intervenes, Williams is scheduled to die by injection at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday (3:01 a.m. ET) at San Quentin State Prison, near San Francisco.
Civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, who met with Williams earlier in the day, criticized Schwarzenegger for deciding not to spare Williams.
Jackson said Williams, who was convicted of killing four people in two 1979 robberies in Los Angeles, had earned clemency and that Schwarzenegger's decision was about "making politicians look tough, but that does not make it right."

Bye Bye A--H--- and take jesse with you. He doesn't deserve to live any more than you do.
They should have snuffed you right after the verdict instead of 25 years later.
If the Crip has killed,
He must be stilled.
On one hand, I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty - administered by the state even though the state is not the victim.
On the other hand, I shed no tears for takers of lives - and if *any* death row inmate deserves sympathy, this guy doesn't even come close. .

Please, don't get me wrong...I just look forward to some good wall-to-wall news coverage again...[/sarc]
I have a feeling that for all his tough talk, Tookie will be dragged to the gurney kicking, screaming and squalling like a baby. I perceive him as the type that was comfortable sitting in prison and never thought that consequence would catch up with him. I imagine right now, he's consumed by anger, not for the jury, judges and governor, but for his supporters, apologists and attorneys, for not coming through. I'd hate to be one of the guards that comes to take him when it's time...I don't believe he's ever been repentant, and for his soul's sake I hope I'm wrong. He's a man of violence and doubt he'd miss the opportunity to dole out just a little more. His petulant refusal to eat a last meal cemented up my opinion of his psyche...he was willing to eat the state's food when his execution was up in the air...but now that it's the state that's killing him, he's not going to eat it. Well, he's been eating for many years, which indicates to me he apparently wasn't taking the death sentence all that seriously until quite recently.

"I have a feeling that for all his tough talk, Tookie will be dragged to the gurney kicking, screaming and squalling like a baby."
Excellent analysis.
Tookie ain't no Gary Gilmore.
I'm afraid the good-for-nothing thug is gonna give the guards a huge temper tantrum.
"I know one of his sons is in San Quentin for murder just like his famous POS dad. The other, I think, is in prison for some other illegal activity."
The acorns don't fall far from the tree.
Jessee Jackson Said "killing four people in two 1979 robberies in Los Angeles, had earned clemency"
Yep yep...Jackson you are the man. What a freakin sell out
Just how does the grammar go? Lezzee, "Crip" must be present tense, right, Tookie? Then the past tense is "Crap", no?
So the tookee gets took by the tooker and the Crip gets Crap.
Or something like that....
8mm
Will it ever stop?
He's a bully and this is what bullies do. Depending on how much time he spent thinking today and coming to grips with the fact that he'll never again see sunlight, he's either going to be raging at others or wallowing in self-pity. I expect no edifying, profound, remorseful or penitent last words from this one.
Tookie is dookie!
