A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Good morning, FReeper FRiends! We're Christmas'ing all this month at the Finest, and this weekend you are invited to join us on a tour of the Finest Homes, where many of our regulars are going to share their decorations with you in their posts throughout the weekend. In addition, we would love to see your Christmas trees, your outdoor lights, favorite decorations, recipes, Christmas traditions in your home.

Because the thread may get really *graphics-heavy*, I ask that you keep your photos a reasonable size (both physical and in bytes), but do hope you will feel free to post as many as you like, and drop in often to see the offerings of others. I will start with a little bit of Christmas in my kitchen, which helps get me in the mood to bake cookies and other goodies we don't need but think we can't do without. :)

As we share our photos and traditions with others, I'd like to share a link to a wonderful Christmas album: "Merry Christmas With love" by Clay Aiken, who has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. My favorite song is #6: "Mary Did You Know". I've been listening to it over and over and over, but you should be able to listen to all of the songs on that CD.

Clay Aiken ~ "Merry Christmas With Love"

Mary Did You Know

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby you kissed the face of God?

Mary did you know.. Ooo Ooo Ooo

The blind will see.
The deaf will hear.
The dead will live again.
The lame will leap.
The dumb will speak
The praises of The Lamb.

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you're holding is the Great, I Am.

From My House to Yours.....

Merry Christmas, Ya'll!

Mighty pretty, *Nan*, mighty pretty indeed. Almost as pretty as *you*. : )

Ah, woofie, one thing about it - if we ever feel a little down, all we have to do is give you a call, and we're right back *up* again!

Charmer! :)

re: A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS POEM

Just glanced out the front window and saw a guy in Cammies talkin with our neighbor. After wipin' the tears from reading the poem, I went out to thank him for serving our country and gave him my Veteran's Day coin.

This "kid" has been a frequent visitor to the neighborhood for at least 10 years and now he's no longer a kid - instead, a man in uniform. Salute!

THE SANDS OF CHRISTMAS

by Michael Marks December 8, 2005

I had no Christmas spirit when I breathed a weary sigh, And looked across the table where the bills were piled too high.

The laundry wasn't finished and the car I had to fix, My stocks were down another point, the Chargers lost by six.

And so with only minutes till my son got home from school I gave up on the drudgery and grabbed a wooden stool.

The burdens that I carried were about all I could take, And so I flipped the TV on to catch a little break.

I came upon a desert scene in shades of tan and rust, No snowflakes hung upon the wind, just clouds of swirling dust.

And where the reindeer should have stood before a laden sleigh, Eight Humvees ran a column right behind an M1A.

A group of boys walked past the tank, not one was past his teens Their eyes were hard as polished flint, their faces drawn and lean.

They walked the street in armor with their rifles shouldered tight, Their dearest wish for Christmas, just to have a silent night.

Other soldiers gathered, hunkered down against the wind, To share a scrap of mail and dreams of going home again.

There wasn't much at all to put their lonely hearts at ease, They had no Christmas turkey, just a pack of MREs.

They didn't have a garland or a stocking I could see, They didn't need an ornament--they lacked a Christmas tree.

They didn't have a present even though it was tradition, The only boxes I could see were labeled "ammunition."

I felt a little tug and found my son now by my side, He asked me what it was I feared, and why it was I cried.

I swept him up into my arms and held him oh so near And kissed him on the forehead as I whispered in his ear.

"There's nothing wrong, my little son, for safe we sleep tonight Our heroes stand on foreign land to give us all the right,

To worry on the things in life that mean nothing at all, Instead of wondering if we will be the next to fall."

He looked at me as children do and said, "it's always right, To thank the ones who help us and perhaps that we should write."

And so we pushed aside the bills and sat to draft a note, To thank the many far from home, and this is what we wrote:

"God bless you all and keep you safe, and speed your way back home. Remember that we love you so, and that you're not alone.

The gift you give you share with all, a present every day, You give the gift of liberty and that we can't repay."

"I freely submit this poem for reprint without reservation--this is an open and grateful tribute to the men and women who serve every day to keep our nation safe." ~ Michael Marks

Have enjoyed seeing everyone's decorations - LadyX your post gave me chills (in a good way) and Nan's precious Emma along with Dave's grandson brought a smile to my face. :) This is our Christmas tree.

I'm so glad you posted your tree, Aqua - it is just beautiful - like the way you vignetted it, too. It's like we're looking through an oval-shaped window. :)

Should have built a fire before taking the picture, but I'm not good at starting a fire from scratch and there's no gas jet. :)
