Tour guide trussell
We are going to visit the National Park known as Mesa Verde, located in the southwest corner of Colorado. I will be your tour guide. We will be taking this in sections. Today we will talk about the drive into the park.
See that flat topped mountain just ahead? That is Mesa Verde. Just to the right, is the mountain known as the "Sleeping Ute" It looks like an Indian, laying down...resting. With a headdress on. His arms and his toes are sleeping volcanoes.
Let's drive a little closer now! Mesa Verde was named by some traveling Spaniards. Mesa Verde is a Spanish phrase meaning "Green Table".
This picture is actually a 3D picture...if you have the 3D glasses, check it out!
Read about Mesa Verde Here: Mesa Verde National Park
This is "Point lookout". This is what it looks like in the winter. Pretty, don't ya think?
We'll start from the road shown here... We are going to the circular roads shown here. Those are 6 mile loops. The one on the right has the largest ever discovered and excavated cliff dwelling in Northern America...it's called Cliff Palace. We'll look closely at that one later. The loop on the left is the Mesa top loop road. It has many Mesa top dwellings, like pit houses and pueblos.
This is another 3D picture. It is 14 miles from here to the visitor's center, and 19 miles from here to the museum. The road is kinda windey, and the speed limit ranges from 25 to 45 the whole way!
This is one of my favorite views from up here...But be careful...don't get too close to the edge, it's a long way down!
The canyons are beautiful...those cliffs in front of you may have a cliff dwelling hiding somewhere.

I don't know.
But you should issue an order or something....;)
To: StarCMC
The last I heard was 2-4 inches.
According to the local news (that surprisingly for a change of pace just did a remarkably nice job of handling two military stories -- one on a local Pearl Harbor survivor and another on troops returning home to area) predicts that we'll get 6" of snow tomorrow, starting at around 4pm. It's zero out now! (I have water faucet in the kitchen set at a slow drip and hope that that's enough to keep things from freezing up!)

Gret thread Lady T!
I have been to Colorado..
We were driving up the side of Lookout(?)
Mountain..(so many years have passed, I forget)
We saw a sign that said "Beware of falling rocks"
We could see the cars above us, making those tight turns..
I told Mr.B they should post a sign that says "beware of falling cars."
I no sooner said that..than a Mazda slid down the cliff in front of us..and landed on it's roof!
Just a few cuts and bumps for the folks inside...
Whew!
Ms.B

We don't get much snow...something about the bluffs here on the Mississippi...most times it misses us & goes either north or south. No, I never learned to drive in it either - I just like it!
