For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday... Thank the Veterans who served in The United States Armed Forces.
Looking forward to tomorrow's freedom? Support The United States Armed Forces Today!
Tour guide trussell
We are going to visit the National Park known as Mesa Verde, located in the southwest corner of Colorado. I will be your tour guide. We will be taking this in sections. Today we will talk about the drive into the park.
See that flat topped mountain just ahead? That is Mesa Verde. Just to the right, is the mountain known as the "Sleeping Ute" It looks like an Indian, laying down...resting. With a headdress on. His arms and his toes are sleeping volcanoes.
Let's drive a little closer now! Mesa Verde was named by some traveling Spaniards. Mesa Verde is a Spanish phrase meaning "Green Table".
This picture is actually a 3D picture...if you have the 3D glasses, check it out!
Read about Mesa Verde Here: Mesa Verde National Park
This is "Point lookout". This is what it looks like in the winter. Pretty, don't ya think?
We'll start from the road shown here... We are going to the circular roads shown here. Those are 6 mile loops. The one on the right has the largest ever discovered and excavated cliff dwelling in Northern America...it's called Cliff Palace. We'll look closely at that one later. The loop on the left is the Mesa top loop road. It has many Mesa top dwellings, like pit houses and pueblos.
This is another 3D picture. It is 14 miles from here to the visitor's center, and 19 miles from here to the museum. The road is kinda windey, and the speed limit ranges from 25 to 45 the whole way!
This is one of my favorite views from up here...But be careful...don't get too close to the edge, it's a long way down!
The canyons are beautiful...those cliffs in front of you may have a cliff dwelling hiding somewhere.

Note to snow lovers:
I have a really LONG driveway here at Casa Rider. Anyone that really needs to EXPERIENCE snow is more than welcome to come shovel. Advil and Bourbon along with a warm couch are provided.
Presently, here in the People's Republic, we are awaiting the next likely SNOWSTORM OF DOOM!!!!! My back hurts now in anticipation.
Omar the Barn Cat has moved into the house and presently occupies a space hearth-side, a sure sign of nasty weather. This is not a good sign as he is not bearing an amused look.
