"The work he was doing is the work they would like to see done," daughter of hostage to terrorists
ABC Nightline | Dec 6,2005 | Jeff Head

Posted on 12/06/2005 10:09:20 PM PST by Jeff Head

I just watched an interview with the daughter of the American Peace Activist held hostage in Iraq.

While I can respect the strength of the man's convictions, I sharply and fundamentally disagree with them. He specifically stated that if taken hostage he did not want US or Iraqi forces to attempt his rescue with any use of force. Despite this, it is clear that he was there in direct opposition to US forces and was in fact abetting the very people our forces and the free Iraqis are fighting.

When asked by the host if there was anything that she would like to say to her father's captors, she stated the following (this is almost a word for word quote),

"I would like to say to them that my father was always very welcome by the Iraqis he was trying to help, that the work that he was there to do is the same work they would like to see done,"

Now I know she is distressed, but she was very straight forward in her comments and her opposition the US effort in Iraq. I take her at her word.

In essence, from this interview, it is clear that the so called, Christian, peace activist mission, is a mission to support the enemy.

He was there to support the enemy, I doubt he was trying to convert them to anything.

The iraqi's he was trying to help are apparently the Iraqi's who the US is hunting, IMO

I know; just drawing a sort of paralell to provide a contrast between the goats (the terrorists who cut people's heads off) and those who truly want salvation. I don't know if those peace activists wanted to meet regular Iraqis or the terrorists, but if its the latter...then they came in vain.

"I would like to say to them that my father was always very welcome by the Iraqis he was trying to help, that the work that he was there to do is the same work they would like to see done..."

We should pause before jumping to conclusions. By "they" was she referring to the "Iraqis" or to the terrorist? I think the former is more likely.

"Not possible. The interviewer directly asked he what she would like to say to her father's captors...and this was the response, to them."

If that were the case then she would have said "you" (or ya'll if she's Texan), not "they."

Gets you no brownie points unless you are a fanatic Muslim too.

Christians can be as deluded as anyone else. I don't support this guy one bit. But we are saved by grace. Idiots go to heaven too.

I just want to jump in here to say I watched the whole interview also. Keep in mind what Jeff Head wrote is not a direct quote. I believe he's paraphrasing from memory what she said. Unfortunately, I didn't tape it so that's what I'll have to do also.

In the beginning of the interview she was clearly talking about how her father went there to help the Iraqi people and that he was specifically helping detainees and families of detainees, and that he was very welcomed by the Iraqi people.

At the end of the interview, however, when asked what she would like to say directly to the captors, she clearly (and I know this because it shocked me when I heard her say it) said something along the lines of "the captors should know that killing him will not help their cause. He was there to do what they want to see done." It was crystal clear to me that she was talking about what the captors want to see done in Iraq.

Now, I don't personally believe she means her father is in favor of terrorists, carbombs, beheadings, etc. I believe she and her father are simply naive and perhaps honestly believe that these "captors" have some simple reasonable requests and all they want is to see unlawfully detained innocent people freed, etc. I think she is simply deluded and doesn't realize that these "captors" are also terrorizing the Iraqi people and that what they want in Iraq is an Islamic terrorist tyranny. At least I hope it's simply naivete and delusion.

The knucklehead "evangelized" his way into his present mess, let him "evangelize" his way back out and don't bother the military with it. If he succedes, he can come home and write a book, "Witnessing Like Your Life Depends On It".

Until then: Stupid is as stupid does.

Yes I agree, I wouldn't put anyone in danger to get him out. The Muslim Council of G.B. is trying saying he should be welcomed by the Terrorists as an Honored Guest! That tells me a guest deal about their world view.

No, we get on with real life - it was only his eternal destination that we ought to be careful about. Christians can be brave and freedom loving but also dull as brushes and downright dangerous.

dont worry about pearl. pearl was a jew, and when arabs kill a jew, the mossad is tasked to kill the arabs. this will be done if not already done. this is yet another area where our so called govt fails the grade once again.

It's happened before. Phoney hostage-taking. More publicity for them, blah blah, woof woof. Nothing to lose, since the US media won't 'out' them if/when proof of fraud and complicity come to light.

I'm going to bed. zzzzzzzzzzz

I saw a clip, soundbyte, from the daughter the other night. I was appalled. Then last night, I see the MSM is attempting to turn this daughter's "image" into martyr icon status. Digusting.

#####

They were in the Abu Ghraib area asking for testimony from "ordinary Iraqis" of American abusive conduct toward Iraqis.

So sorry for these activists, the "ordinary Iraqis" could not comprehend actual Americans and Canadians asking such anti-American questions, so assumed that they are spies FOR America.

The word "Christian" is just a front for this crowd. Their spokesmen have specifically said that they did not go to proselytize. In fact, I have never heard of a Quaker evangelizing.

There is an element that is more infuriating. All foreigners are warned repeatedly that no matter what their motives, living unprotected in Iraq is extremely dangerous. So, now these naifs gets kidnapped and regardless of their earlier statements, the military has to expend time and manpower trying to rescue them; time and manpower that could be better spent getting rid of the threats against Iraqi citizens. It is likely the kidnappers are nothing more than thugs out to make some money.
