"The work he was doing is the work they would like to see done," daughter of hostage to terrorists
ABC Nightline | Dec 6,2005 | Jeff Head

Posted on 12/06/2005 10:09:20 PM PST by Jeff Head

I just watched an interview with the daughter of the American Peace Activist held hostage in Iraq.

While I can respect the strength of the man's convictions, I sharply and fundamentally disagree with them. He specifically stated that if taken hostage he did not want US or Iraqi forces to attempt his rescue with any use of force. Despite this, it is clear that he was there in direct opposition to US forces and was in fact abetting the very people our forces and the free Iraqis are fighting.

When asked by the host if there was anything that she would like to say to her father's captors, she stated the following (this is almost a word for word quote),

"I would like to say to them that my father was always very welcome by the Iraqis he was trying to help, that the work that he was there to do is the same work they would like to see done,"

Now I know she is distressed, but she was very straight forward in her comments and her opposition the US effort in Iraq. I take her at her word.

In essence, from this interview, it is clear that the so called, Christian, peace activist mission, is a mission to support the enemy.

Not one soldier had better die in a rescue attempt.

" He specifically stated that if taken hostage he did not want US or Iraqi forces to attempt his rescue with any use of force..."

Now why would someone say this beforehand - unless he was there TO be "taken hostage" and subsequently "ransomed"?

OPINION: Sad to say, some people need an in-your-face experience to get THE BIG PICTURE as to the enemy we're dealing with. I pray that none of our troops or coalition partners are harmed in any rescue attempts.

Jesus DID say he came not to bring peace, but a sword.

I can understand the hostages attempts at trying to convert the Muslim radicals...but these men are not going to convert. Men who are willing to cut off the heads of innocents to please the false god Allah are not going to convert. People who strap explosives to themselves and attempt to take as many people with them as possible are not going to convert. Plain and simple.

Not to nitpick, Jeff, but is it possible that, by "they," she was referring to "the Iraqis he was trying to help," and not to the kidnappers? I didn't see it so I'll defer to you.

Despitye this man's requests...if the US military finds him and thinks they can save him, you know they will.

Doug, the daughter kept going on about how the captors are huiman beings too and her father wanted no violence to come to them. That's fine for him to be so convicted...but American soldiers are equally convicted to protect American lives at all costs and will try to save him if they can.

Listening to this woman, I was reminded of Merl Haggard's, "I'm proud to be an Okie from Miskogee" song where he talks about earlier Peace Activists (70s) and how long he wondered we were going to be able to "keep on being free" in America with their ilk around.

I noticed that the passion was absent from President Bush's voice when he commented that the U.S. would pay no ransom for these kidnapped people. I wonder what the inside info on this scene is. Because the White House worked their butts off to try and get back Daniel Pearl and I heard about $5 million possibly being offered for him.

Not possible. The interviewer directly asked he what she would like to say to her father's captors...and this was the response, to them.

I do not believe the US government offered any money for Pearl. His family may have...but that is not the government. I do not believe we would...or should...pay such ransoms as a government because it would invite a wave of hostage taking that would have no end.

...and God bless them for the conviction burning in their heart that will move them to do so...to even volunteer to do so like so many would.
