When one little company like Nissan North America pulls out of a great big city like Los Angeles, does anyone even notice?
They do when Nissan is the 80th corporation to do so since 2002.
The automaker's announcement that it will leave L.A. for Nashville, Tenn., may have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
Just days after the announcement, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. fired off a letter to California's legislators, urging them to appoint a task force to consider changes in state tax and employment laws to help reduce business costs.
The 80 departing corporations are taking 13,000 jobs with them, the group says. And in an alarming shift, it warns that the corporate departures no longer are moving just midlevel jobs; they are claiming headquarters and r&d jobs, too.
I guess they will have to raise taxes to cover the Nissan short fall.
I said it's my hometown ... I never said it's perfect. I'd said I'm active in politics (as you and I have met several times). And I'm trying to change it.
I will not be apart of the endless harping on Los Angeles. Yes, you join them ... bash L.A. all you want. But we'd be better off if you left. After all "you can live for a 1/5 than you can in L.A." Sell your home and move to a batter place.
We don't need another L.A. hater.
Is there any other place you hate in the USA? Probably New York ...but you made an exception for 9/11.
Hate L.A. if it pleases you as you CONTINUE to live here.
You mean open borders is not saving LA from liberalism?
I did. I have a small ranch in Texas and paid what you did for your bathroom.
That's great. And I support everyone who decides to move where ever they want.
I just can't abide people who sponge off L.A. and gripe, gripe, gripe. L.A. seems to be the one place in the U.S. that every true blooded American loves to hate.
You know what, I recognize what has happened to this area and I chronicle it. Does that mean that I hate the area?
One thing that I've noticed through years of discussing issues on forums like this, is that people can't stand the truth if it touches on one of their pet loves.
I share your displeasure with people outside the area damning LA, when they haven't lived it, but those who have should be adult enough to admit what is taking place here. Only by admitting what is taking place and squaking about it will perceptions be changed and matters improve.
What do you hope to gain by saying that this area is great and that nobody should tell the truth about what is taking place?
Sponge off L.A.? So that's what you call it when people tell the truth about what's taking place in the southland. I'm sorry, but I think you lost a wheel a few miles back.
When did I say NOBODY SHOULD SAY THE TRUTH?
I said I'm politically active. But L.A. has definate good points. Bash it if you will ... but better to leave if you can't find anything good to say (which you cannot).
I dod't hate LA. I just hope I never have to drive near it again.
Moronic retort. Lost a wheel. You can do better.
I hope you will find a better life in Milwaukee. I love it here ... ain't perfect NO PLACE is perfect. No place!
Haha! Espeically those who have lived to the south of LA. ;)
You can have it. Orange County, San Diego County, San Louis Obispo, Monterey... yes, much nicer. ;)
Nothing like living in what should be paradise and putting up with smog and traffic jams like no other. Not that traffic is peachy in Orange or San Diego, though. But it's still way better than LA.
Not really. Salaries are better here ... so are restaurants and museums ... beaches et al.
Love where you live and I will love it too. But I can love where I live as well.
Yes, lets not trash southern California, let's just trash each other if someone dares address what's happening to what used to be one of the nices places in the nation.
I've worked thirty-seven years in the southland supporting my family. How dare you say I've sponged off the southland?
I think we better call this quits. You just might top that insult and I'd say some things I'd rather not.
California is a liberal's Utopia.
You're right at home on this L.A. bashing thread.
Enjoy, enjoy.
The city that no one can find anything nice to say about.
Hey, it's a great place.....to leave.
Good night.
See this is my point to Doughty One. It's a L.A. bashing thread.
Imagine living here and not finding even one thing to like. Sounds stupid.
