Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. (NEED HELP BAD!!!!!)

I'm suddenly getting the above message and I can't get rid of it. I've unloaded and reloaded Internet explorer 6 countless times over the past 5 days as well as patches, updates, virus checks, bot checks, et al. and keep coming up with the same problem. My e-mail is affected too. "kernel32.dll", whatever that means, seems to come into play here as well. Anyone know anything about this?

kernel32.dll is a Windows core file.

This happened to me awhile back. Your "kernel32.dll" is bad. You need to go to the driver site and download a newer one. A real pain in the gazoo.

De-install Explorer and load a good browser like Firefox or Opera.

If they also have the problem, then it isn't a browser

Is your virus check software up to date? It sounds like you've got something.

You also need to get a condom for IE; its a slut. Or better yet; practice safe surfing and lock it (IE) down and get Firefox.

I'm using Firefox right now - the beta 1.5 release seems to work; 1.07 doesn't.

What scenario did you have in mind?

... just fixed a problem with ZApro 6, where some earlier
update apparently nuked C:\WINNT\system32\msxml3.dll, and

I had this. I have XP so I ran System Restore and set the wayback machine to a few days earlier when IE was working properly.

I have McAfee and also have scanned with Trend housecall. Also Spybot, Ad-aware, etc.

It does not necessarily mean that kernel32.dll has the problem - it could mean that something is supplying invalid data to calls into kernel32.dll (part of the OS).

I don't think it is possible to truly uninstall IE.

Here is one thing to try - open the Control Panel and double-click on Internet Options. In the Temporary Internet Files box, click on the Settings button, then the View Objects button. Right-click on every line that displays in the next window and choose Remove. (Don't worry - these are ActiveX controls and other objects that will automatically download and re-install when you need them.)

Then close the windows and try IE again.

You need a utilities cleaner along with a Firewall. Go by Walmart and pick up Defender Pro. It's $10 and will do the same thing as the $70 programs. It comes with an Internet firewall etc.. This should fix your issue..

I'd be interested to read what you have to say about zonealarm, also. I have it, and almost always get some zonealarm-related error (vsmon and others) at shutdown.....I'm so sick of waiting for scandisk to run at reboot....
