TRY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT -- THOSE WERE EMPTY WORDS [The Presidnet's Amnesty Program]
Neal Boortz ^ | Nov. 29, 2005 | Neal Boortz

Posted on 11/29/2005 5:25:04 AM PST by conservativecorner

Yesterday, George W. Bush strode to a podium in Tucson, Arizona (I love Tucson!) and against a backdrop of law enforcement officers, announced his latest plan to crack down on illegal aliens. There was nothing in his speech we haven't heard before, and his new immigration policy is just as contradictory as the old one. Among the initiatives announced:

We should build more jail cells to hold illegal aliens. Good idea. The speeding up of deportations, a crackdown on fraudulent identity papers, and a hardening of the border with more surveillance. So far, so good. Then the nonsense started to flow. The president urged Congress to pass his guest-worker amnesty program and repeated the nonsense that the illegal aliens are here "to fill jobs that Americans will not do."

Same old, same old. It is impossible to stand there and say you're going to crack down on illegal immigration while at the same time say that you are going to reward people who broke our immigration laws. The president says it's not amnesty. Ok, now we've finally caught the president in a lie. OF COURSE it's amnesty! When you tell someone who has broken the law that you are not only going to ignore their illegal conduct, but you are actually going to reward them for it, then you have more than plain old garden variety amnesty, you have amnesty with perks!

As for the oft-repeated line that the illegal aliens fill jobs Americans won't, that's also a load. Companies may not be able to fill those jobs with Americans at the same low wages they pay Mexicans, but there are plenty of people in this country that would do the work at the right price. OK .. so the price of headless chickens, landscaping and construction might go up, but at least the people receiving those paychecks would be law-abiding residents of this country, most of whom would be citizens. There is something wrong with the idea of celebrating lower home prices when those lower prices are brought with disrespect for the laws of our country. It gets worse than that. We are threatening our very security by singing the praises of illegal aliens in our workforce. Just two weeks ago we were interviewing a Texas congressman who was telling us that U.S. intelligence agencies have knowledge that Al Qaeda terrorists have moved to Mexico, adopted Hispanic identities, learned the Spanish language, and then moved right into the United States across our porous borders.

George Bush failed to address the problem appropriately yesterday, but this isn't strictly a George Bush issue. There is absolutely no willingness on the part of either political party to crack down on illegal immigration. There are simply too many votes to be had in the Hispanic community. So as a result, our security as a nation is threatened and our cities and states are overrun with illegal aliens.

I'm sure representatives of Al-Qaeda are preparing to apply for their guest-worker permits as we speak.

How do you feel about illegal drug dealers? They make plenty of profits.

Not the point, but I know you know that.

But my point in my previous post was that the idea that cheap illegal labor results in cheaper prices for consumers is an economic fallacy. The savings do not get passed on. Prices are based on supply and demand. If you look at a supply and demand graph you will find quantity on one axis and price on the other. You will not find the cost of labor anywhere on the graph because it has nothing to do with the price. The producers pocket the labor cost savings as illegal profits.

I don't dispute it but my experience is that COSTS do get passed on and WILL get passed on.

You don't get it, do you?

The English language falls under a branch of the Indo-European family, which also includes Latin and German, among others.

Spanish is NOT a major influence upon the English language, NOR is the country Mexico.

Rather, the word roots from LATIN have formulated many English words, and those within the Romance languages, i.e., French, Italian, and Spanish.

The guest worker program is to thwart the slave labor and gateway communities.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-backroom/1472612/posts?page=38#38

Impact from illegal alien labor:

- Costing health care, retirement funding, education and law enforcement, accruing at $30 billion per year.

- USA is foregoing $35 billion a year in income tax collections because of the number of jobs that are now off the books.

- Census Bureau estimates that 8.7 million people are illegally residing in the USA

- Urban Institute estimates a total of 9.3 million are illegally residing in the USA

- Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a total of 9.2 million are illegally residing in the USA

- The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) stated that the Bureau of Labor could have missed as many as 10% of illegal aliens, since illegal aliens avoid census questionnaires. The CIS suggests the total illegal population is at 10 million or higher (March 2004).

- Employers have incentive to hire undocumented workers off the books.

- Overseas labor markets have forced US employers to find innovative ways to capitalize on sources of cheaper labor to stay competitive.

- Employers place pressure on the government to ignore the flood of cheap labor.

- Services, ie but not limited to: public school enrollment, language proficiency programs, and building permits, that cater to illegal aliens have increased in areas that are considered gateways for immigration.

- The top nine states that account for 50% of illegal aliens are: California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, New Jersey, Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina.

- Sole authority to govern immigration flow is placed on the federal government.

- Responsibility for providing support to legal and illegal immigrants rests with the state and local governments.

- Immigrants send home on average $1,400 to $1,500 per year through money transfers (also called Remittances).

- As per the World Bank in 2002, people sent $133 billion worldwide. Developing countries accounted for $88 billion of that.

- Remittances from the United States to Mexico have tripled to $13 billion between 1995 and 2003.

- As per the Pew Hispanic Center, 39% of surveyed Latino immigrants listed themselves as having legal status to opening bank accounts. This enables cash transfers through private money centers such as Western Union and Money Gram.

- HOWEVER, banks including Citibank, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo Bank began accepting matriculas, which are photographed identity cards for Mexicans living in the US.

- Matriculas are obtainable by any legal or illegal Mexican. Matriculas are widely obtainable through Mexican consulates across the USA.

- To date, around 2.5 million matriculas have been issued, and the number is growing.

- In major illegal alien gateway cities, the influx of immigrants has led to a housing boom unexplained by official population growth.

- In New Jersey, the three gateway towns are New Brunswick, Elizabeth, and Newark.

- Housing permits in these three towns shot up over six-fold, while the rest of the three counties only saw a three-fold increase.

- 80% of these permits were designated for multiple tenent dwellings.

- Official statistics state that illegal aliens in New Jersey have jumped 110% – an estimate that is inconsistent with the housing statistics. Local realtors' stats for multiple tenent housing and school enrollments suggest the number is higher.

- The major illegal alien gateway cities have experienced school enrollments much higher than projections.

- The decrease in the number of births in the past decade had led education administrators to expect decreasing school enrollments as a post echo boom trend.

- A higher immigration rate, however, has offset the impact of declining births.

- Enrollment stats for major illegal alien gateway city school districts that included: Queens, New York; Elizabeth, Newark and New Brunswick, New Jersey; and Wake County in North Carolina revealed explosive growth in immigrant students, far beyond numbers consistent with *legal* migration limits.

- NYC public school system is the largest in the nation, enrollment of 1.1 million students.

- Immigrant student enrollment for 1998-2001 was 103,000, with Queens accounting for the largest share, 37,000.

- Between 1990 and 2001, more than half of New York City’s school districts increased their enrollments 10% or more, driven by a high number of immigrant students.

- New York City Public Schools, 1999 to 2001: 102,867 immigrant students: Dominican Republic, China, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Ecuador, Colombia and Haiti.

The speech did have a certain ring of insincerity.

This will end up being the problem that loses Republicans re-election. Strictly enforced measures must be instituted at our borders and in our cities.

When illegals are found, they must immediately be sent back to their home country.

Maybe a more simplistic explanation is what you need.

There's a family of brothers and sisters. Some speak in Latin, others German, and still others in Lithuanian

They have children. One child speaks English; another child speaks Spanish. Yet another child speaks French.

Though the cousins may have borrowed some ideas and words with each other, it was their parents who most influenced them in their language development.

As usual, it's really best not to put the cart before the horse.

Oh, but who will pick all the strawberries and lettuce? And who will tar the roofs and do housekeeping in all the hotels? Oh, and what about the poor U.S. born children of illegal aliens, they shouldn't have to go home with their criminal parents, should they? The problem is just so unsolvable.... We should listen to Dane and others and wave the white Murtha flag now, no matter the consequences of doing so.

I understood the first time. I guess it all depends on the definition of "good portion". What I meant was that most people understand and use words such as various food items ( e.g. enchilada) and other words such "manana", "hasta la vista baby", and "gracias" for instance.

Say seize the entire Tysons foods under the RICO act.

I would rather have the company pay a fine & restitution; while the officers involved are sent to prison for 10-20 years. Just do that consistently and the message will get across.

So you are a union goon, and IIRC the unions that recently left the AFL-CIO are going on to more "green"(leftist) pastures.

Do you consider my father, who is a retired police officer and PBA member to be a "union goon"?

those are considered colloquialisms/slang and "overuse of colloquialisms by native speakers is regarded as a sign of substandard ability with the language."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colloquialism

Colloquialisms are not word roots in the English language; rather English language word roots are mainly Latin (to a great extent via French) and Germanic.

I don't agree with the "via French" part. I think it was mostly via the Romans.

BTW, illegal immigrants don't get paid enough to have any significant impact on real estate prices

You couldn't be more wrong.

First of all their housing is subsidized by the US taxpayer. This means that in addition to what we pay in federal taxes, our property taxes, which go to local and state governments pay for the housing projects that the illegals live in. In the area where I live, state and federally subsidized housing projects have been built exclusively for "farm workers" almost all of whom are illegal. So if the cost of housing includes the cost of paying property taxes which subsidize housing for illegals then they do have an effect on the cost of real estate.

When the local, state and federal government get involved in the housing market, like they do to create subsidized housing for illegals, it drives up the price and harms property rights. If the government eyes a piece of property for a project, if they can't outbid you they can condemn the property under redevelopment rules and take it anyway. This has an impact on real estate, not only in price, but it chills the market when the government becomes landlord.

The taxpayer also guarantees loan programs for illegals to buy homes, which has an effect on real estate prices.

The massive influx of illegal aliens has caused our government to become more and more socialist, as our elected politicians fail to protect our constitution and our rights from the lawbreaking employers who use illegals for their businesses. That, my friend, IS AN UNTENABLE COST.
